Calm down, spinach.
āI like clothes now. I have more energy. I sleep better. My sex drive is up. Bloodās flowing. Iām less susceptible to impulse. Iām in a different mode. When I was way out of shape, the idea of using whitening strips on my teeth seemed terrible. I have to do that every day? Iāll never do it. What you want is instant results when youāre out of shape. You want your teeth whitened in 45 minutes with the use of lasers. But when youāre in shape, you know itās the result of doing a little bit every day. Moments arenāt just moments. A moment might be a week or a month. So instead of Boy, Iād love to eat this hamburger right now, Iām considering a little further into the future. Iām thinking, I eat that hamburger and thatās 1,200 calories, and Iām gonna work out tomorrow and lose 800 calories. I may as well eat a salad here, still do that workout, and then Iām actually making progress.ā ā Chris Pratt
This just motivated the fuck out of me.

hot take: moms need to learn how to listen to and comfort their daughters without making everything about their own traumas
a classic example
daughter: hey this thing you do bothers me very much and i wish you wouldnāt do it
mom: well my parents abused me and im not even as bad as they were and i had to sit through it so you gotta sit through whatever i do to you too
Unfortunately very relatable.

My workout today was a 2.5-hour hike around Pacific Spirit Park and Kitsilano. It's nice to get out of the gym sometimes!
Four to five times a month, I feel like I have very specific
moments
where I can either
make a decision that is healthy/on-target/would help me reach my goals
OR
make a decision that isnāt the best, but also doesnāt seem super harmful to my overall progress at the time.
My brain literally stops me and says, āHey, this is a test of your self-control, what are you gonna do?ā And when that happens, past experience tells me that my decision at that moment will affect my ability to stay on track for at least the rest of the day, if not the next whole week.
It sounds crazy, but I really think this is a pattern for me.
Iāll be sitting at my desk at work and think, āHmm Iād really like some chocolate. Oh, thereās chocolate in the break room. But I also have chocolate at home, so if I still want some by the time I get home in a few hours, Iāll have some. But ugghhhh I want some right now. And itās right there in the break room. Iāll just have a little bit.ā
And then my brain goes
DING DONG HELLOOOOOO THIS IS A MOMENT!! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO??!
And if I stay at my desk or distract myself with something else and I donāt eat any chocolate right then, I make it through the āmomentā. And I donāt feel any desire to eat chocolate an hour later. But more importantly, I feel powerful and more sure of myself and my ability to reach my goals. It doesnāt even matter if I do end up eating some chocolate as a treat when I get home. That action is no longer connected to the āmomentā. That confidence builds on itself and carries over to the next day, and itās easier to eat well and exercise like I want to. And it becomes even easier the next day and the day after that.
BUT if I DO go eat the chocolate right then, maybe 15% of the time Iāll actually have a little bit and end it there. And Iāll feel proud of myself and life goes on. But 85% of the time Iāll stand there for ten minutes stuffing as much chocolate as I can into my face because the first, second, third, and fourth pieces tasted so good. Then Iāll go back to my desk and feel gross. But then Iāll think about how a granola bar might taste good, too. And I already ate the chocolate, so why not? So Iāll go grab one from the snack table and eat it. And then Iāll grab a second one and eat it because eating it feels good. And then Iāll grab a snack bag of chips and some pretzels because fuck it, right? And then Iāll feel awful so Iāll skip the gym and Iāll get home and talk myself/my partner into ordering pizza and then Iāll eat half of that. And before I know it, Iāve had an awful day and I have to be very purposeful about my choices the next day in order to keep from spiraling out of control. Which might still happen once every two months if I choose to eat the chocolate in the break room too many times.
I had a āmomentā about two hours ago (involving some Cheetos and delicious honey mustard pretzels) and I said no. I could have just posted about that. But idk I felt the need to type out all of that other stuff ā¬ļøā¬ļøso I recognize that this is a pattern. This is how I get off track. I know when itās going to happen, I can feel it, my mind tells me, and I can make the conscious decision not to let the cycle begin in the first place. I need to say No more often.
These āmomentsā have nothing to do with restriction or avoiding certain foods and have EVERTHING to do with whether or not I am in control of my food or if food is in control of me. I try to eat 80% healthy/whole/unprocessed foods and 20% treats/whatever I want. When I eat something as part of the 20% that is delicious, but not super healthy or good for my body, I want it to be a choice. Not a compulsion.
This is the smartest thing Iāve read about healthy eating. Ever.
Yes!! This is super important! Itās not about never eating the things you want, itās about eating them in a healthy manner and mindset.Ā
Too brilliant post not to share! Thank you!! š

Hey so uh,
As a trans guy whoās been working out for a few years now and has learned a lot about their body and building muscle and whatnot in the process, hereās something I donāt see mentioned, like ever.Ā
Abs donāt really look Like That⢠when theyāre relaxed.
Hereās a few examples from a Reddit thread asking for pictures of people both flexing and not flexing their abs
I rarely see male body positivity posts in general but Iāve never seen this mentioned, and honestly? Call me stupid for it if you want, but I genuinely thought that super defined look was something that was achievable in a relaxed state, simply because Iāve never seen anything to the contrary.Ā
As someone with body dysmorphia as well asĀ dysphoria, you can imagine the damaging effects that might have had on my mental health trying by to achieve the impossible. I can only imagine how many other masculine folk out there could be struggling with the exact same thing.
Anyway like, this is mostly to point out for masculine folks that might be pushing themselves too hard, that youāre probably doing better than you realise.Ā
Anecdotal stuff aside, this is an important thing for artists to remember as well! This is something I never realised despite being an artist that goes to figure drawing classes on the regular and having modelled for them myself- because of courseĀ people with abs are flexing for the poses! I was doing it too! - Admin Pasta
āBetter to have a big goal and achieve half of it than to have no goal and achieve all of it.ā

Friendly reminder:
Health looks different for everyone.
If drinking a Diet Coke in the morning stops you from getting a 500 calorie Frappucino, then do it.
If your mile takes 17 minutes to complete, complete it.
If you love meat, eat it. If youāre vegan, get that plant-based protein.
Do what is best for your body at the pace that you can handle.
There is no wrong way to be better and you will not be perfect overnight.
Keep failing until you fly and Iāll be cheering for you every step and stumble along the way.
