i want to watch every single movie
I disagree with a lot of what is said on here about Britta Curl and how she's 'a scapegoat' or how people only hate her for her political views. I think why Brita curl is such a hot button issue is because of how publicly she advertises her views. I don't disagree that she's definitely not the only transphobe in the PWHL but she uses the platform that is the PWHL and the recognition she gets from it to promote transphobia openly and shamelessly.
Furthermore- she is the most suspended player in the league, her 'playstyle' makes hockey unsafe for everyone around her, she's landed so many illegal hits to the head, even if it was the most politically correct player out there, i would still think they should be expelled from the league after a certain amount of chances was given to them to stop being a danger to others.
And god forbid people be glad she's gone, even if she is just a symptom of an at wide toxic hockey culture, there should be consequences for her words and her actions beyond generalized pubic disapproval, but it sure as hell is a good place to start.
I keep seeing people say that she "can't be kicked from the league because of her political views". Anyone with any awareness of the issue doesn't even want that - they want her kicked from the league because she's a danger to other players. She's also emblematic of how spineless the PWHL is on developing an institutionalized gender inclusion policy. If they'd develop and enforce some actual rules, we wouldn't need to focus on individual-level issues at all.
Instead, the PWHL is towing the line left by the men's league of letting players get away with whatever they want. Workplaces are allowed to have standards for employee conduct, not sure why everyone seems to think that disappears if the employee is an athlete.
what people fail to understand is that in the current political and social climate if we are truly going to support lesbians during pride month we need to be paying better attention to lesbian-specific issues. like the psychological and emotional distress caused by the PWHL expansion protocol.
it's pou being speechless for a moment at the sheer amount of people that showed up, it's ann bursting out crying when they turned the corner on saint-catherine street and saw the crowd for the first time, it's the girls being told it was a gathering or a celebration and not a parade bc they weren't sure the turnout would qualify and then 20 000 people showing up, from montreal and elsewhere, taking the trip, showing up hours early for women's hockey, for the victoire. it's the girls on the bus looking behind as a sea of people followed them cheering and singing with love

saving this for the day after the finals cause i didnt want to harsh my own buzz but. sometimes it bums me out how much people take the queerness of the pwhl for granted and forget how recent and fragile all this progress is. these players, especially the high-profile ones, were shoehorned into the closet for *so* long, the needle has only begun to move so recently, and its not as though there’s any pda between partnered players, there’s no kissing on center ice, everything has to be ruthlessly professional cause these women know what will be said about them if it isn’t.
