#reminds me of the earlier version of the padmé choking scene where hayden rehersed with her stunt double#while he chokes her he doesn't look at her. he looks at OBI-WAN. and user yesitsterriblysimple put it perfectly:#He'd rather hurt Obi-Wan than save Padmé.#it's less ham-fisted in the final version but it's still there. OBI-WAN cares more about saving padmé throughout the whole of mustafar#tbh it can be said anakin cares less about saving padmé in the whole of ROTS than about saving Himself from the risk of potential loss#and by mustafar anakin cares about WINNING. him clocking padmé isn't about her. it's to stroke his own rage AND to punish OBI-WAN.#WHERE is his HEAD !! 👏#sw#obikin#vaderwan#also how obi-wan and padmé being blindsighted by anakin's fall plays out differently btwn them#anakin & padmé's interactions are laced with this tone of a fairytale they push onto themselves. their dialogue is idealized & lofty#the closest they get on mustafar is when they still follow the motions of a fantastical perception & permitting too many shortcomings#the reason the bubble pops for anakin when he sees obi-wan is bc obi-wan doesn't meet anakin halfway with untruths and wrongdoings#anakin doesn't show that unreliable-narrator side of himself to obi-wan anymore. he has padmé for that and palpatine too#obi-wan knew the best side of anakin - imperfect but earnest and good - bc that's what anakin's strove for when obi-wan is with him#that side of anakin is real. but he didn't want obi-wan to be disappointed or confront him for his shortcomings - which obi-wan Does#the relationship anakin has with obi-wan still suffers from not seeing the full picture of anakin but it's ultimately more honest.#when padmé arrives she brings to anakin the familiar comfort of a rose tint that softens reality. she very nearly becomes complicit to him#when obi-wan arrives the tint shatters. what happened with windu and the temple and sidious is real#real enough for consequences. even now anakin WANTS to be the one who is punishing obi-wan. only to an extent he does#obi-wan doesn't Want to punish anakin. this Isn't a punishment. from obi-wan this is a consequence.#anakin is the heavy hand but obi-wan is the sword#obi-wan is now witness with no filter the range of the best parts of anakin and the very worst. there is a brutal honesty from anakin now#and it translates really well into how mustafar plays out @wreckedhoney
