It never fails to make me a little bit sick how Oikawa is just… too much for Miyagi. Obviously the rest of Seijoh is wonderful too, but they don’t HAVE IT like Oikawa has it, and it makes me ill. His first serve that we get to see in the interhigh tournament makes me so emotional. He’s too big for this place; for these small stages and dim lights. He always has been !!!

Oikawa/Iwaizumi vs Kageyama/Hinata. Don’t get me started.

I deeply deeply dislike the fandom infantilization that Oikawa gets around here sometimes. He is so SMART—he is so cunning, so witty, so charming, and it’s not really even a FACADE. That’s just who he is. He’s not wearing a mask, that’s just… Oikawa. To reduce and belittle that makes me mad. Sure, he’s a prick, and he’s annoying and arrogant, but he is far from “childish”, so to speak

To bounce of that, I love how it plays with Iwaizumi

Iwaizumi is his rock. That’s all.

Watching this first episode where we really get to see him, I can’t help but think of how perfect and tragic it is that he never goes to nationals. It is not lack of talent or drive or anything like that; sometimes you just lose. It’s an obvious observation, but I think people overlook it. He has to lose. He has to feel it all the way through, he has to chase it across an ocean, to Argentina, to his idol, to the Olympics, to learn that he is fallible and he can be so marvelous despite that.

Later, in season 2, they cut him off. They say “We trust you, captain” before he can finish. And that just means… so much to me. Because all Oikawa wants is to be seen, I think. Part and parcel, he wants to be recognized as the terrifying, monstrous, frightening thing he is, and he wants to be held and trusted BECAUSE OF and IN SPITE of all that. And they do ! He is !!

He’s such an asshole. My baby boy. He walks his talk so it’s okay—definition of “putting your money where your mouth is”

He knows to block Hinata at the end, because he knows Kageyama, because he MADE Kageyama. GAHHHH THEY MAKE ME ILL I CAN ELABORATE ON THIS IF Y’ALL WANT

Sakura is walking Endo and Takiishi back to the motor cycle after they wrap up the Suo business on the roof of Furin High. Hands in his pockets seething about everything he just learned. He is full of agitated energy and dodges Endo when he tries to touch him.

Endo is rambling, oblivious to Sakura's mood, trying to talk him into coming with him to get some food and giving him a thousand options for where they should go.

Momijikawa appears from around the corner. "Hey Haruka, wait up"

"huh?!" Sakura says startled out of his thoughts. "Oh it's you, what do you want?"

Endo freezes the air around him turning cold as he stares unblinking eyes on the newcomer.

Momijikawa glaces at Endo for a moment before his full attention lands on Sakura.

"I wanted to see if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight? I am trying out a new recipe I got from Kotoha."

"hmm" Sakura considers it for a moment running his hand through his hair. But hey a man's gotta eat. Might as well get a free meal and Sakae is a pretty decent cook. Way better than Sakura is anyhow. "yeah man, I can do that. The usual time?"

"yeah," Momijukawa glances at Endo feeling his eyes burning holes into him. He drops his voice and takes a step closer so that only Sakura can hear him. "Hey do you. Uh, need some help here? Where the fuck is Umemiya?"

"I don't need any help, I can handle myself," Sakura replies loudly and clearly offended. "I don't need a fucking baby sitter alright. Besides it's just Endo."

Momijikawa hesitates, What does he mean 'just Endo'? That man is a notorious psychopath, doesn't Sakura hate him?

He clearly doesn't trust Endo but knows better than to push Sakura. He nods once and turns to walk off, shooting Endo one last glare as he goes.

Sakura shoves his hands deeper in his pockets and starts walking towards the exit again. He gets several steps before he realizes Endo isn't following. "What's wrong with you? Let's go."

"who is that?" Endo hisses through clenched teeth. Sakura starts as he clocks the cold look on Endos face, the hairs on the back of his neck raising in warning. Endo isn't looking at Sakura or Chika anymore but rather is turned in the direction Momijikawa went, fists clenched and body frozen as if he can't decide which direction to move in next, clearly at war with himself.

Sakura takes a beat as he assesses the threat before him. He has felt this energy from Endo before and knows that trouble is brewing. Sakura snarls protective of his people "it doesnt matter. He's Bofurin, he's off limits Endo."

Endo is silent for a moment, emotions still roaring in his eyes before he spits out his reply.

"Yamato."

"huh??!"

"I want you to call me Yamato," there is a finality in his voice. "If that nobody gets to use your first name in his trash mouth don't you think I deserve to too?"

Endo forces himself to pull his attention back to Sakura and smiles at him, but this smile is tinged with malice and doesn't quite reach his eyes.

Sakura rolls his eyes "yeah yeah whatever, let's get out of here already."

"I'm not leaving until you say it," Endos reply is stubborn but Sakura can tell there's a seriousness under the half joking tone.

Begrudgingly Sakura responds barely loud enough to be heard "come on, Yamato."

Endos entire attitude changes in a moment, his face blushing red and his smile spreads genuine from ear to ear. He throws his arm around Sakura's shoulders and leans in as they walk. Easily slipping back into the one sided conversation they were having before the interruption, solidifying their plans for lunch.
