Even if by the time he’s 17 he doesn’t care about getting expelled anymore, he still wants to be a good person in other ways. He wants to be someone Annabeth can spend her life with. He wants to be someone who his friends know they can trust. It’s a fundamental part of him that probably came from Sally. While it wasn’t entirely May’s fault, she didn’t instill in Luke the same sense of duty. Sally showed Percy the importance of being loving and loyal, and he carries that with him.
