Uncomfortably Close

I was very excited for the first Paranormal Activity movie, I even showed up for the premiere night, waiting in line for over an hour.  In the end it wasn't as scary as I hoped it would be and I got extremely nauseous from the camera movements.  The subsequent films were slightly better but I was very disappointed in the first film.

I am a huge fan of The Exorcist.  Both terrifying and thought-provoking, this film was amazing.

To be honest I am not 100% sure.  I haven't seen a movie in theaters due to their outrageous prices and the fact that real pants are stupid. Praise Netflix!  I think the last major film I saw in theaters was The Purge.  Starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, the film was a solid, home invasion horror scenario.  The CGI blood towards the end was kind of annoying but other than that I really appreciated the film.  A few twists kept it fresh and allowed me to enjoy the film overall.

Brief description from IMDB:  "In the future, a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized."

One thing I absolutely loved was the mask.  I think that the uniformity amped up the creep factor.

The first horror movie I can remember is Dr. Giggles.  

I had to do some research as it has been over 10 years since I have seen the film. A brief synopsis found on Amazon.com states, "A When the psychopathic son of a mass-murdering doctor escapes from a mental institution, he seeks revenge on the citizens of the town where his father was finally captured. The giggling new "doctor" uses the surgical skills he picked up from his father and a near-lifetime spent in and around medical facilities to gruesomely do away with his victims while he awaits the chance to perform his ultimate revenge -- giving one of the townsfolk a heart transplant, without anesthesia!"

I remember that this movie terrified me as a child. I might have to re-visit it now as an adult and see what I think of it now.  Maybe a review will be posted in the near future.
