I think one way Chris could grow as a person would be to show him growing beyond his physical attraction to Harcourt and beginning to see her as a person and a friend (as we recall, he has issues with sexism)

John and Chris work together much more interestingly because of their similarities. Both suffer from toxic masculinity to varying degrees, as well as deep insecurities. Their relationship evolves from colleagues to "enemies," and then John regains Chris's trust, and Chris even begins to admire him

There comes the "what if" section!! In season two, the boat scene would have been SOOO interesting if it had been Chris x John. They walk around, even become somewhat closer, go to a performance by a band they both like, and bum they kiss. John is in shock, he's having a sexual identity crisis, and he never even considered the possibility that he might be attracted to men, so of course he runs away, scared. Chris is also in shock he knows he's bi but Economos of all people?? So here they are, two grown-ups, John working at Argus and even having to keep an eye on Chris, whom he's trying to avoid, while Chris slowly begins to accept the situation and try to figure things out, just like in canon. And it's all so bittersweet

Now about season two and the big change? My oc Ross Steadman, Cecil's husband and a super powered psychic, but unfortunately both men are unaware of each other's secrets. He works as an office clerk and believes that his superpowers don't make him special, wanting to live like everyone else, only occasionally performing small miracles.

Ross sees Invincible and Omniman fighting on TV and decides to help by becoming the young hero's mentor. And Ross finds himself in front of the Graysons' door one day. And he just like: My name is Ross Stedman, I'm greatest psychic all of the time and I will be your mentor, Invincible

And Mark: bro wtf

Mark will go around and suspect Ross and Cecil are somehow connected. But they both don't understand who Mark is talking about. Cecil's terrified there's someone powerful and not under supervision. And Ross thinks about what GDA are murky. Mark first thinks they're father and son, or that they're brothers or distant relatives. But then he starts to suspect they're gays when he accidentally spots Cecil with a wedding ring (Cecil forgot to take it off before the emergency)

Mark is busy with superhero activities, and Amber is busy volunteering. And they can see each other because Ross is finally working and keeping Mark from overdoing

Also I think he will be help to guardians of the globe too (after he finds out who his husband). Ross really care about this teenagers superheroes and trying be good mentor to them and care about their mental condition. I think he wouldn't have let the Immortal and Kate romance go either (I don't like their romance line it's like grooming to me sorry not sorry)
