I worked with a woman who was independently wealthy. But she liked working housekeeping. So she did. And if the manager got bitchy with her, she’d just shrug and be like “Okay, I can quit.”

Like the manager treated her like a human being because she knew she had to because otherwise she’d lose one of her best workers.

There’s a lot of people who’d happily do the same sort of thing.  Honestly?  A lot of the jobs we consider “shitty” jobs?  Are shitty because the employees are treated like garbage.

Ok, note that its not mpreg. What really makes this fic shine is how Spock and Jim get closer and closer as they communicate and bare themselves openly with each other, deepening their connection.

What To Do When Your In Laws Are Ambassadors (TOS, 19188 words) by Solid_Medical_Advice

The Enterprise is set to pick up delegates from across the Federation and take them to a meeting where they will determine the fate of a (as of now) non-Federation planet. Professionally, this is not a problem for Captain James T. Kirk. Personally, it is a little bit weird to pretend the ambassador of Vulcan and his wife aren't his boyfriend's parents. Journey to Babel but Kirk and Spock are dating and pretend they're not.

Ok, this is an established relationship fic, but the friendship aspect is heavily explored here-- how they're friends first and lovers second, etc.

Here's the thing: Jim might have woken up in the past. He might have also woken in an alien simulation or a telepathic recreation of his past. This might even be a whole other reality. But, with no way to be sure, there's really only one decision to make. As long as the chances aren't zero, Jim has to try to stop the upcoming destruction of Vulcan. What makes this goal that much harder is doing it without looking insane. Or actually going insane as he constantly doubts his reality.
