Sophomore Interartist, Anina Dassa, played Jenny Hill in UM Musket’s production of BIG FISH! Congratulations, Anina!
Call Your Mom, a theatre group consisting of Mia Massimino (Interarts ‘17), Emma Bergman (Interarts ’17), Eliza Cadoux (’17), and Sophie Goldberg (Interarts ‘17), premiered their new show, THIS CLOSE, at the Duderstadt Video Studio this past weekend! Brava!
Holly Hughes, Co-Founder of the BFA Interarts Program, writes: The show is terrific -- rich, layered, moving, funny, -- such a great blend of the visual and performed elements it reads like a testimonial to Interarts that someone dreamt up, but that someone was the four of them. So so proud, I love that they have been working on their own, found a creative community....
Missing sunny Interarts camping trip days like this. Winter always hits Michigan hard during our Mid-Winter Break!

#FBF to performing in the Interarts Fall Showcase 2015! We love performing in the Dude!
Senior Interartist Brian Garcia writes: “Had a major time as a dandy minion in Taylor Mac's A 24-Decade History of Popular Music: 1956-1986. Special thanks to my fellow dandies, Taylor's wonderful crew, Machine Dazzle and UMS for the opportunities. Can't wait to experience the full 24 decades in October. See you in New York!” Brian had the opportunity to perform with Taylor Mac earlier this month.
The Inner Workings of a Girl
I understand that this sounds like either a self-help book for parents or a porno, but promise you it is neither. (Sorry?) I also understand, that as a 20-year-old, I should probably no longer be referring to myself as a girl and probably start using the term woman, but today I fell nothing shy of a 12-year-old girl on the first day of summer camp. I was overly excited and, simultaneously, overwhelmingly nervous. I was anxious to make friends, as to not fall into the loner category (I only want that label when I choose to take it on). I clung to the people I already knew like lice on a new scalp (although if it was camp, and I were lice, I wouldn’t make it past check in, so maybe that’s a bad analogy…). But, most importantly, I caught glimpse of a boy (fine, young man—see, that sounds so weird) within the first 5 minutes of arriving, and developed the epitome of a schoolgirl crush. JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL. Today was the first day of the Second City Comedy Studies Program, and all I can say is that I am so happy to be here. Camp always felt like home to me, and although this place may not quite feel like home yet, I can tell that I have most definitely found my people. Everyone laughs at my jokes, no matter how dumb or intellectual they are. No one thinks SNL is an impossibility. We spent a whole friggin’ day together on our first day meeting…voluntarily! We all may end up hating, dating, frustrating each other, but that’s in the future, and today is now, so we have to make the most of it while we can. We’re all gonna die pretty soon anyway, right? Woah, that got super dark real fast… I should end on a happy note, not one about death, I guess. So, here are my final words for today: Camp is the place where you get to experiment. Whether that means trying on different personalities, exploring the opposite (or same, your choice!) sex, or just running around barefoot while screaming your head off, camp is a place where you get to grow up and be a child. Basically, it’s the safe space every adolescent child needs. I know it’s only day one, but this feels just like camp.
Junior Marisa Diamond is currently studying in Chicago for the Winter Semester at the Second City Comedy Studies Program. Yes, you heard right - SECOND CITY! It sounds like so much fun! Good luck, Marisa!

In April, junior Erica Gavan will be performing in a super-hero themed pole dance piece, choreographed for Amy Cadwallader’s MFA thesis!
Here are two similar test shots for a scene exploration of a car crash my performer, Caty was in. She was driving on a snowy road with friends back from spring break, the driver lost control and the car slid off the highway and flipped upside down.
“I vividly remember time moving so slowly and having one hundred thoughts, I was positive I was going to die. I remember it was utter silence except for someone saying on repeat “ohmygodohmygodohmygod” and I found out afterward it was me. I felt all the blood leave my face and it felt very cold. Also, we all were drinking starbucks green tea fraps and they sloshed all over my body and I thought it was blood at first.” Here we see a car driving down the road on Caty’s back, to portray physical pain and story through the line of her backbone. I hope to reshoot this scene with Caty’s movements a bit slower, as if she got hit in slow motion. It would be interesting to shoot this on a backdrop such as a road or in the woods, however it’s a bit too cold out right now. Also, a higher resolution video is necessary to get a clear image. I’m contemplating using a glass breaking overlay as seen in the version from 56 to the end. Sound seems like it’ll be an important part with the crash sound.

Everyone loves a dream sequence! These photos were taken at a shoot for part of senior Gabrielle DeCaro’s senior thesis, “Forget Your Kitten”. Gabrielle DeCaro directed with the assistance of Interarts junior Erica Gavan. Interarts juniors Mia Massimino and Sophie Goldberg put on their whiskers, pulled up their leg warmers, and gave a dreamy performance with the cast! The rest of the cast was comprised of some stunning musical theatre, acting, and theatre majors at U of M.
