first draft of set aesthetics - How It Affects Me/bedroom scene 

I am sick, but I am managing to create what I believe to be work and a plan of action for the next few months. This past week I was able to catch Young Jean Lee (YJL) give a few talks, as well as a performance of “Straight White Men”. Her writing is grand. To experience her presence is one thing, but watching her plays be performed was very inspiring to say the least. She’s considered an experimental playwright, a title that almost always makes me grin as if writing new work isn’t experimental enough or we have to categorize people and their body of work as “experimental” as if that is short-hand for “weird” “bizarre” “unusual” “unique”. Those titles are good, too.

I won’t write a review for her work because I have a lot of teachers demanding a structured paper like that already, but I will say I’m happy that I caught these shows at this point in my own project/process. It’s a great time to be a woman and an even better time to make work about the things that scare us or confuse us. Why not why not

I completed a shoot last week and am organizing the final 3-4 pieces I need to create before the beginning of April. I plan to film 2 pieces next month (beginning, hopefully, next weekend) and using the time set aside in March for my studio shoot and solo work. I want to have enough time to edit my show together so that I can re-edit and rework material if I don’t think it flows well together. I think it will, though. I think the connective tissue is important but I don’t need to kill myself over it. Content is what matters to me, and I’m committed to a 20 minute to 22 minute time chunk. 

Besides YJL, besides producing work that has turned me against any form of lifestyle or career that would lead me to be a Producer*, besides how stressful it is to create a project like this while having second thoughts about most things because I’m so close to graduation and a huge change is coming in my life - I really liked the movie “Carol”.
