Daeron and Myriah!!! I need to know everything about their marriage
Daeron is an island of a character. He effectively has no siblings for nearly 20 years. His closest relative in age (Elaena) is locked in the Maiden Vault for a decade and exits the very same year Daeron becomes a father. He's closer in age to his parents than most of his siblings.
His upbringing is full of extremes. He's born the year dragons go extinct. He's named after a boy warrior king who is killed under a peace banner. He comes of age in a religiously conservative court with a deeply devout mother and most, if not all girls his age being shoved in the Maiden Vault. He's betrothed by their septon-king to a foreign princess to bring peace between realms. This woman arrives to marry him when this septon-king is still in power. Suddenly he's a father and the court is full of women again, including very scandalous women. Some of these women are openly fucking his dad. Suddenly, Daeron has siblings who threaten his position (and his children's positions, and the peace he was raised to secure) just by existing. Throughout all of this, his dad is abusing his mother, and only Baelor ever seemed capable of stopping it even tho Daeron's uncle is the realm's foremost warrior.
Myriah feels like a shadow cast over Arianne's future, a mirage of what Elia could have been. The woman who, by all rights, could have and should have ruled by her own merits over her own independent kingdom, instead dedicates herself to a peaceful and competent rule over a hostile land. She gets to build peace, her brother gets her birthright.
She grows up in the knowledge that, in the long history of Dorne, she's the first first-born daughter to get shuffled off to marriage alliance rather than groomed for rule like her younger brother. But she presumably still grows up around women in power -- and paramours worthy of respect, and bastard children deserving of love and acknowledgement. She arrives at a foreign court to secure peace and it's ruled by a man who locked up princesses for daring to tempt him and grants tax breaks to lords who put their daughters in chastity belts. Her first-born son is named after this man who starves himself to death in a fit over his sister's bastard. Her mother-in-law wanted to be a septa but ends up a queen. Her father-in-law, who soon becomes king, flaunts his paramours to disrespect the wife he abuses. His court is the opposite of Baelor's. But that also means he wants war, not peace with her people. His bastard children was born alongside her sons and are a direct and pointed threat to them.

they’re my roman empire, actually.

today i went to swimming and almost drowned three different times by giant waves so i’ll make sure it’ll serve as first-hand info for my fanfiction writing
i stopped caring for ryan condal’s fantasy world which literally wasted the potential of the accurate dance of the dragons, something i’ll mourn deeply, but WHY DO YOU MAKE MEN KISS THEIR MOTHERS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUUUUUUUUUUU

The fact that we catch Maekar in a tense situation, but if you pay attention he’s a good dad… he believes his sons can change (before reaffirming it to himself more firmly but that’s understandable), he personally goes out to find them, he is clearly pissed off at aerion’s terrible behaviour and tries to discipline him (are you hiding? Why not slay the rogue yourself?) and when Aerion keeps bratting he gets mad. Calls him an idiot. But fights for him anyway, and even though he is CLEARLY disappointed he still clearly loves him, yelling “MY BOY!” as Aerion gets hit.
He stays in his room as he’s recovering even though he started what lead to the death of Baelor. And when he sees egg trying to kill him, he understands. And just gently stops him with a hug.
“He’s my last son” as he’s almost tearing up. Maekar Targaryen they could NEVER make me think you are a bad dad. The bratting is demure
He does. He loves them all so deeply. Even if he is grumpy and brash. I truly believe he also isn't always so grumpy and bad at parenting them. Ashford was just one shitty clusterfuck of mishaps & if I remember correctly Maekar is supposed to be freshly widowed and still kinda griefing his lady wife. His children are all he has left of her. Doesn't matter if they are a mess, he is a mess too. They can be messes together.
i bet daeron ii told his sons to name their children after who they want them to be so maekar names them after his father, the conqueror's father, the dragon knight, and the conqueror himself then here comes mr breakspear going hmmm i want him to be a boy lemme call him "Mann™"
I’M CACKLING AT THE TRADE MARK
naerys & daeron ii
king daeron ii: if anybody has beef with me, it is one-sided. i do not care. i do not have the energy. i am tired.
a concept: Maekar doesn’t actually have “mommy issues”; his father is the one whose approval he wants and feels he never gets
maybe Daeron feared that Maekar would grow up to be like Aegon and interpreted his temperament as a sign that Maekar didn’t like or respect him and thought he was weak and useless. maybe Myriah had to reassure Daeron that his son didn’t actually hate him, that his prickly temperament was just his “Dornish temper”. maybe Daeron just didn’t “get” Maekar, as the only one of his sons who wasn’t known for being gentle and/or scholarly. maybe Daeron and Maekar both very much wanted each other’s approval but as different as they were they didn’t quite know how to get it.
Well, in my mind i think the whole thing circles around the miscommunication or the lack of the communication where they would express their opinions and feelings explicitly to each other.
Which is very ironic because i think daeron was excellent at many things, which all built upon his determination to rule with wisdom and diplomacy, but he was not always good at it when he was first became a father.
Baeloe was his pride, his firstborn and his heir, and the target of all the vile people that possibly couldn’t accept a dark-haired, a Dornish looking, boy could inherit the Iron Throne of Aegon the Conqueror. So he worked harder, endured the humiliation and disrespect of his own father the King, having to stitch the realm back up while his father had declared wars and spreaded corruption as he pleased as the ruling monarch. He, after all, grew up with his own claim doubted because people suspected he was a bastard born from the adultery between his mother and uncle. So, yes, Baelor was the one he had been overprotective and attentive the most.
Aerys was like him, maybe more closed off to the outside world and denied duties, spent his time with reading books and becoming intrigued by what he was interested written on parchments. So, I think he definitely saw himself in him and maybe ignored his second son’s mistakes for its sake. Good or bad, I can’t say, but since people constantly remind him he was more of a scholar than he ever was a warrior, he didn’t push him to do whatever was expected of a prince of the royal family.
Rhaegel was sweet, gentle, and fragile compared to his brothers. His third son, prone to be unaware he was walking naked and dancing in the halls, and not suited for any duties Baelor would ever bear as a prince and as a son. Which, I imagine Rhaegel would be the one who needed the most attention after Baelor because of his sometimes-wandering mind and unpredictability in his health. Daeron was not the cruel father his own father was to him, so he didn’t forsake his son to his conditions and kept him close to him every time.
And, now, Maekar.
His youngest boy, who beared the infamous temper and eagerness to prove himself right at every chance he got through quarrels or shouts, there are reasons why Daeron wasn’t the same with him like he was with his other sons.
Maekar was a hard person. Of course, as the youngest child of four he was often overshadowed by his older brothers’ achievements or skills so he worked harder, longer and more than anyone. When he hated something or someone he didn’t have to hide it, when he was irritated or angry at someone he had more freedom to unleash his fury at the same person. He could be brash, head-strong, foul-mouthed and competitive and impatient with other people and as it is said here, it reminded Daeron too much of his father.
Because Maekar was good-looking and a promising warrior. Because Maekar knew what he was capable of and he seemed to not be mindful of its limits like his brothers would prefer. Because Maekar was the one who tended to start a fight between noble children who dared to insult his brother and mother for being Dornish, talking behind their backs like many people seemed to take no true fear in it. Because Maekar wasn’t afraid, nor cautious, nor easy to rule. When he loved, he loved too much and when he hated his anger blinded him with no second thought behind his actions. Because Maekar was tended to be reckless, unpredictable and somehow everything a true Targaryen is recognised for. A true dragon. A true Valyrian.
Too much like his father.
And Daeron despised everything his father had done to him and his wife and his heir, and got a son who’s path seemed to be intertwined with the unkind memories remained from Aegon the Unworthy. Maekar may remind the late king from times to times, and he knew it wasn’t in his son’s nature to be cruel and ill-intent like his father, but still there was a distance between them for the clash of their natures and the men they became in their lives. Because Daeron lived in a court filled with schemes and injustice that was supported by his own father, who poured poison down to his throat by legitimasing all his bastards before his death in the spite of his firstborn son, and caused irreparable damages to not only to Daeron’s reign and the realm he inherited, but also Daeron himself.
And Maekar had Daeron.
There’s a difference.

the sons of daeron the good and myriah martell
Anarcha Westcott was a young Black girl enslaved in Alabama. After a traumatic childbirth, she developed vaginal and rectal fistulas, a condition that left her in constant pain and shame.
Instead of receiving care, she was experimented on over 30 times by Dr. J. Marion Sims, who operated on her without anesthesia. He used her body to develop a surgery that would later be used to treat white women, with pain relief, dignity, and consent.
Anarcha didn’t agree to any of it. She wasn’t a patient. She was a victim of medical violence.
Today, she is finally being remembered, not as a statistic, but as one of the true Mothers of Modern Gynecology, alongside Lucy and Betsey.
