also regarding the “ethical” part of that last sentence, as much as we rightfully hate idpol becoming the only focus with no material analysis, having some politics relating to identity as part of the picture is not some unholy sin (in fact in its absencee you get a whole other mess) and people’s personal comfort and dysphoria and identity should be a part of how we interact with these issues otherwise what is our gender related politics for, pure intellectualism and theory? it’s supposed to at some point come down to improving people’s embodied experiences including/especially people who defy gender roles/gender/the gender binary, and we can’t exactly do that if we’re like “well you identify as agender but it looks like you’re classed more as a woman in our societal framework regarding misogyny so I’m just going to call you a woman and use language involving “woman” until you leave uncomfortably, it’s called #materialism” no one would.. interact with people like that.
