βThe original novel [Dumb Witness] was dedicated to her [Agatha Christieβs] own wire-haired terrier - βTo dear Peter,β it read, 'most faithful of friends and dearest of companions. A dog in a thousand.β I felt exactly the same way about the terrier in our film. He captivated me from the moment I set eyes on him. The little dog, whose real name was actually Snubby, became my dear friend. [..] My now ever-expanding fan club wrote to tell me how much they enjoyed it [the episode], so they also told me, the sales of wire-haired terriers shot up exponentially after it was shown for the first time in March 1996.β - David Suchet, Poirot and Me

βI donβt know why dogs always go for postmen, Iβm sure,β continued our guide.
βItβs a matter of reasoning,β said Poirot. βThe dog, he argues from reason. He is intelligent, he makes his deductions according to his point of view. There are people who may enter a house and there are people who may not - that a dog soon learns. Eh bien, who is the person who most persistently tries to gain admission, rattling on the door twice or three times a day - and who is never by any chance admitted? The postman. Clearly, then, an undesirable guest from the point of view of the master of the house. He is always sent about his business, but he persistently returns and tries again. Then a dogβs duty is clear, to aid in driving this undesirable man away, and to bite him if possible. A most reasonable proceeding.β He beamed on Bob. βAnd a most intelligent person, I fancy.β βOh, he is, sir. Heβs almost human, Bob is.β - Agatha Christie, Dumb Witness
βYou do like birds, Mr. Poirot?β βMiss Lemon, small animals have no part to play in the home life of a private detective from Belgium. Except, of course, as a source of nourishment.β
Belgian, not French!
Agatha Christieβs Poirot, Season 1
Actor David Suchet was taught how to eat a mango in βpolite companyβ by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. On May 2 1990 Suchet was at a private lunch at Buckingham Palace, per the Queenβs invitation. It was his 44th Birthday. He discovered the Queen likes to invite people from all walks of life whom she finds interesting.
During lunch, Suchet was served a mango and suffering from an acute attack of nerves, he turned to Prince Philip, confessing he didnβt have the slightest idea how to deal with the fruit. That provoked an enourmous laugh from Prince Philip, who replied immediately, βWell, let me show you,β and demonstrated what exactly one should do. Suchet was relieved he wasnβt left floundering and was now able to eat the fruit in front of him.
Later that day he told the story to Brian Eastman, the producer of Agatha Christieβs Poirot, and asked him if they could include it in the episode they were soon to film, 3x09: The Theft of the Royal Ruby.
βWe sent a copy of the finished film to Buckingham Palace on DVD, and Iβm thrilled to say that it became the late Queen Motherβs favourite film. Indeed, whenever Iβve met the Duke of Edinburgh since that lunch, he always calls me βthe mango manβ.β - David Suchet, Poirot and Me
