like!!!!!! yeah, say that green day are washed up or whatever, but billie joe armstrong was anti-american when it was actually controversial to be anti-american and not something that was necessary for a celebrity to publicly state to not be cancelled

like, yeah, music has always had social messages and punk was around long before green day, but we all grew up on american idiot, and we’re now all criticizing america and what it means to live a capitalist society devoid of empathy. who’s to say it hasn’t influenced an entire generation?? like anti-war songs and anti-gun songs and songs about prejudice have infiltrated our zeitgeist because green day is one of the most popular rock bands in the world. and i wanna say that maybe because of that, plus the invention of the internet, are reasons why we are all trying to enact change to be a more just society where the less fortune and disenfranchised don’t fall through the cracks

and isn’t that what punk is supposed to do??? what art is supposed to do? i’ve seen people say that he should be doing more right now, but like........he already did it twice!! he’s done his part to try to better society imo
