     “  this  looks  bad  .  .  .  “  teddy  steps  back  ,  hands  rising  up  in  the  air  and  a  look  of  shock  on  his  features  .  “  really  bad  .  but  .  .  .  “  another  pause  .  “  it’s  not  what  you  think  ,  i  swear  .  “  teddy  really  wasn’t  stealing  although  it  sure  did  look  like  it  .  and  the  look  of  guilt  on  his  features  didn’t  help  the  situation  at  all  .  “  i  was  actually  returning  it  .  “

         “  eh,  i  think  i’m  a  pretty  good  JUDGE  of  character.  teddy  and  stealing  just  aren’t  SYNONYMOUS  to  me.  ”  says  the  blonde  with  a  grin.  “  i  am  gonna  have  to  ask  you  to  put  it  down,  though...  SLOWLY.  that’s  a  dangerous  artifact,  and  if  you  value  your  hands,  you  won’t  touch it  again.  ”  warns  carol. 

          HE  STOPS  IN  HIS  tracks  when  the  blonde  approaches  him  .  and  while  stephen  would  prefer  to  already  be  back  at  the  sanctum  ,  he  kinda  knew  carol  danvers  .  in  passing  at  least  .  never  really  spoke  to  her  but  when  does  one  ever  get  the  chance  while  saving  the  world  ?  “  yeahh  ––  no  .  haven’t  seen  the  cat  around  at  all  .  but  she’s  probably  bound  to  show  up  later  ?  ”  he  has  no  idea  but  isn’t  that  how  cats  are  ?

          carol  sighed  inaudibly  at  his  response,  yet  maintained  a  FRIENDLY  face.  “  that  sucks  for  me—  i  was  hoping  you’d  have  some  kind  of  COOL  spell  to  help  me  out  or  something.  ”  said  the  woman,  obviously  joking  yet  her  tone  remained  DRY.  carol  didn’t  joke  much,  this  wasn’t  a  surprise.  she  already  knew  that  magic  without  SERIOUS  merit  wasn’t  good  for  time...  or  something  like  that.  “  you’re  RIGHT.  i  mean,  she’s  never  ran  away  from  home  but  i’m  CONFIDENT  that  she  knows  the  way  BACK.  maybe  i  could  sit  out  some  milk  for  her.  ”

     “not really the typical greeting here on terra, but i’m glad to know i’m not the only one around here just coming in from space.” the more the merrier, personally. if they were friendly, that was. though judging from the polaroid picture that was… definitely from his own era here on the planet, peter was going to go with the whole friendly assumption. peering at the image of the cat, he grimaced, already feeling a bit guilty to deliver the bad news. “not exactly, but i’m pretty good at finding lost things. and, besides, i guess cat finding is part of the guardians gig these days. i can help you find her, if you’d like.” 

          carol  can’t  help  but  grin  once  she  hears  peter’s  response.  he  and  his  ragtag  group  of  heroes  had  always  brought  her  great  JOY-  and it  was  especially  nice  KNOWING  that  she  wasn’t  the  only  one  with  a  set  of  eyes  on  the  galaxy.  “  really?  you’d  do  that  for  me?!  ”  face  IGNITES  in  joy.  “  i’ll  treat  you  to...  er...  pizza  or  something  for  all  your  help.  ”  pizza  was  no  EXOTIC  space  food  that  she  often  found  comforted  her,  but  it  did  hit  the  spot.

          it’s    not    surprising    to    anyone    that    tandy    isn’t    one    to    pay    much    attention    to    anything    that    didn’t    involve    her.    she’d    seen    stray    cats    and    dogs    running    all    over    new    york    like    she’d    been    living    in    oliver    &    company    for    days    now    ,    but    that    just    came    with    living    in    such    a    big    city.    steps    coming    to    a    halt    at    carol’s    approach    ,    tandy    has    to    lift    a    hand    to    her    forehead    to    block    the    sun    as    eyes    scanned    the    photo.    head    tilts    before    her    arm    drops    again    ,    squint    finding    a    way    to    settle    upon    her    features    while    she    lifts    her    shoulders    in    a    light    shrug.        “     i    think    so    ?    i    think    i    saw    her    hangin’    around    one    of    the    fire    escapes    before.    i    just    thought    she    was    getting    some    sun    ,    honestly.     ”

           queue  a  sigh  of  relief  once  the  girl  responds.  she  promptly  drops  the  old  polaroid  photo  into  her  bag  and  smiles  over  at  tandy.  in  her  86  years  of  life,  carol  had  never  had  a  child  &  really  didn’t  see  one  in  her  NEAR  future,  but  chewie  came  close.  the  poor  feline  had  practically  been  dropped  into  her  lap,  almost  as  if  by  magic.  “  thank  you...  i  guess  she’s  looking  for  a  friend.  ”  there’s  another  smile  that  slowly  spreads  across  her  face.  “  it’s  nice  to  see  you,  by  the  way...  ”  the  woman  says,  feeling  like  touching  bases  with  a  few  people  wouldn’t  HURT  considering  her  extensive  absences. 

sam’s surprised to be stopped in his path by carol danvers of all people. though, he supposes not everyone can stay off-world forever, especially if they’ve got a cat as cute as the one in the picture she’s waving in front of his face. honestly, carol is a little intense but sam likes that about her. and he empathizes; the panic he’d have if figaro went missing isn’t even something he wants to think about. “hey, welcome back. i haven’t seen her, but i’m happy to help you look for her? i can ask around with the birds, they might know something.”

           “  thanks,  wilson.  i’m  trying  to  remain  lowkey  right  now  so  i  would  really  appreciate  some  eyes  in  the  sky!  ”  she  had  no  idea  whether  she’d  be  staying  on  c-53  for  long,  so  she  didn’t  exactly  want  to  flash  her  face  all  over  for  the  PAPARAZZI  to  see.  “  how  have  you  been?  ”  asked  the  blonde,  a  smile  spreading  ‘cross  her  lips.

·.·☾    𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐍  𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊      sure,      but  it’s  new  york –  there’s  always  weird  things  and  even  weirder  people   ,      l.a   was  all  about  keeping  up  false  pretences  and  acts  /  but  this  city   ,     people  really  didn’t  mind  being  as  forthcoming  as  they  needed  to  be.    nico  blinked  once  ,  twice   ,   scrutinising  the  polaroid  picture  and  mentally  debating  whether  or  not  she  should  do  the  new  yorker  thing  of  just  minding  her  business.        “   no,    i  don’t  know  –   it  was  pretty  dark,   but  the  alleyway  two  blocks  up  is  usually  pretty  lively  with  the  neighbourhood  cats.   “ 

          “ good  place  to  start...  ”  the  blonde  mused  allowed,  as  she  simultaneously  attempted  to  run  through  the  events  that  took  place  moments  before  chewie  decided  to  bolt.  typically,  carol  wouldn’t  have  asked  anyone  for  help,  but  it  was  no  SECRET  that  she  was a  softy  for  her  kitty  &  the  thought  that  she  might  be  lost,  alone,  or  scared  plucked  tenderly  at  carol’s  heartstrings.  “  thanks...  ”  uttered  the  blonde.  this  made  her  realize  she  didn’t  spend  enough  time  in  her  apartment,  or  on  EARTH,  for  that  matter.  so  many  things  had  changed. 

HAD   IT   BEEN   ANYONE   ELSE   JESSICA   WOULD’VE   PROMPTLY   TOLD   THEM   TO   FUCK   OFF.   but   it   wasn’t   just   a   random   stranger   but   carol   danvers,   her   friend   ,   one   might   say   best   friend   even.   puckering   her   lips   she   holds   in   her   snarky   remark   in   favor   of   examining   the   polaroid,   carol   had   practically   shoved   in   her   face.   jessica   recognized   chewie,   of   course   she   would,   she   had   seen   the   flerken   countless   times   before,   “   i   mean   yeah,   you   two   are   practically   attached   at   the   hip,”   she   snorts   realizing   that   wasn’t   exactly   the   most   helpful   response,   “   anyways   no   haven’t   seen   her   care,   maybe   i   could   help   you   look   for   her?”   sipping   on   her   coffee   she   raises   a   brow   at   the   blonde   mouth   quirked   into   a   half   smile   ,   “   besides   not   like   i   got   anything   better   to   do,”

          “ it’s  much  appreciated,  jones. ”  responded  carol,  a  subtle  smile  tugging  at  the  corners  of  her  lips.  jessica  was  correct—  ever  since  the  cat  had  appeared  in  her  living  room  on  the  day  she  was  attacked  by  sir  warren  traveler,  carol,  who  hadn’t  thought  much  about  keeping  animal,  had  instantaneously  become  attached  to  the  alien  kitty.  now,  the  thought  of  surviving  without  the  poor  thing  was  a  dark  storm  that  clouded  her  mind.  “  i  had  just  got  in  from  space  &  was  unpacking  my  things,  a-and  i  guess i  forgot  to  close  the  door,  or  maybe  she  opened  them  with  her  tentacles...  ”  the  blonde  huffed.  “  i  would  appreciate  the  help,  jess.  i'll  repay  you  for  your  time  with  a  cold  beer  or  something!  ”

          carol cursed audibly when she’d returned to her apartment to find the door half-cracked and her cat, chewie gone. this was not an odd occurrence, though. she was an explorer and she loved the city. to be frank, chewie did not meet anyone who she didn’t show some kind of affection towards- whether it be a simple nudge of the leg or a pounce onto the lap. chewie was not your average cat, instead an alien species called a flerken who looked like your typical housecat native to planet c-53. carol exits her apartment and she’s now walking up and down the street, stopping when she runs into a familiar face. “ hey, sorry to bother you. just got in from space last night and my cat is missing. her name’s chewie... she looks like this. ” the blonde holds up an old polaroid photo of her cat, a hopeful look upon her face. “ please tell me you’ve seen her?! ”
