Here's a source! They're IGN reporters. This is a delightful revelation. The picture of them looking disappointed was taken when they were watching the 2003 E3 Nintendo press conference. When they caught wind of what was brewing for the 2004 conference (Twilight Princess), they staged the second picture. So it sounds like it wasn't taken in the middle of them reacting to the iconic reveal but was inspired by information they had received prior to the conference.

the beginning of twilight princess is genuinely so funny and cute like. link is just this weird young man who showed up one day and lives on the outskirts of town and everybody in the village LOVES HIM and is like ah what a charming young man what a good lad and all the kids in town think he’s sooooo cool and strong and want him to hit things with his slingshot for them and show them all of his moves with his sword and play the grass whistle for them meanwhile all of the adults in town have collectively adopted this weird boy who doesn’t speak but loves his horse a lot and is very sweet n helpful around town. and i can’t blame them bitch i would love him too
