I find it hilarious when men are like, âWell, if women want to be equal, then donât expect me to hold the doors or pay for dinner.â
Yes, sir, that is exactly the point, thank you.
There shouldnât be an expectation that one person in a relationship should pay for everything.
With that said, women are still more likely to work in the home in our society. That is real labor, so your partner isnât taking advantage of you if that is your setup.
Furthermore, the fields women are encouraged to enter (teaching, nursing, nonprofit work) are extremely necessary to our society but are typically devalued due to centuries of misogyny. Many of us arenât bringing home the money we deserve.
Instead of whining that women âexpect you to pay,â Iâd consider how society shoves us all into gender roles, devalues womenâs work, and expects us to perform almost all of the household labor for free.
