problematic rage gap. one partner tries to bring nuance and understanding to a tough situation. the other wants to blow up the earth about it.
I always wondered in the original familiar! Au, did Stan and Ford ever have their own familiars? Was Stans familiar shankly the stabby possum? Was Ford just too awkward to make a connection like dipper? Or did his old deal with billy include the semi same thing as Dippers
Well, Stan did! Ford, like Dipper, never had a familiar.
Ford theoretically had the potential to form that kind of bond with Bill - I wrote an AU short about it! - but it never happened in the main story. Remember, Dipper's bond was a total accident! Even Bill didn't know that was a thing until it happened to him.
I don't know what Stan's familiar was, but it's long dead by now. And I believe that the falling out between the brothers in this AU had a few factors, one of which may have been said familiar's death.
*Shyly approaches the askbox with a Dipper amount of fangirly awkwardness*
In Bill Vs Bill, right before our Bill comes to the rescue, the other Bill seems to be changing his mind about something or suddenly getting an idea and while I have a few guesses, I've been wanting to ask for a very long time. What was other Bill Thinking over there?
'Well, this universes' Bill thought this guy was fun, and y'know what? He is! Even a few shattered bones doesn't stop him being stubborn! Feisty as anything!
Maybe I'll take him with me.'

It feels like this every time I write a fic
had a thought
okay so the more dipper reincarnates, the more people seem to figure out their deal. in the sense that they know that 'once every X years the evil demon chooses a human companion' or whatever. they may never know the nitty-gritty specifics of it, but it doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch to assume people might notice he chooses a very specific kind of guy every time. they might see Dipper's birthmark as a sort of 'mark of Cipher', for example.
which leads me to--
many, MANY incarnations down the line
Dipper is born with his mark, and at this point it's more or less common knowledge what this mark means, and his parents, being loving parents but also sorta overprotective freaks, fly off the rail trying to trick fate and hide him, so he never has to live up to his demon-wrangler glory.
from there, i see two possibilities - either Dipper's contrarian, naturally curious and drawn-to-weirdness nature kicks in and he escapes-
or, more interestingly in my opinion, he just grows up like that. always on the run from the abstract pending doom, stowed away in remote places and hidden bunkers.
i like to think he grows up very resourceful in a doomsday prepper kind of way. very feral. ready to fight this all-powerful entity that his parents always warn him about, that will try to rip him away from his family.
anyway, my question is -
how would Bill deal with this kind of Dipper? that has been raised with this very specific agenda against him and their contract, that he's coincidentally unaware of?
idk i think he'll be very annoyed lol
Well, assuming that we're talking the second Dipper - one where his natural curiosity didn't lead him to leave and his stubbornness didn't cause him to rebel -
I actually think Bill would have a relatively easy time breaking him out of that mentality!
That kind of situation implies a bit of Stockholm Syndrome or Indocrination going on if he hasn't been even a little interested in poking at this Dangerous Evil Entity. Normally he'd at least want to sneak out and get a glimpse of the guy!
So once they meet, all Bill needs to do is find one little crack in that foundation of justification, shove his crowbar of annoyingness and temptation in there, and wiggle it around a bit! From there Dipper's clever brain will do the work, and the rest of that house of cards will crumble like a pile of dice. Jackpot.
Besides, Dipper may not know it, but he is in love with the guy. Bill's got a leg up on him right down on the soul level.
After like a month or so I have finally started another document and boy, do I feel rusty. I'll see if I can knock out this oneshot relatively quick to get back up to speed.
bill purposefully lowering down the ac temp in the middle of the night so dipper unconsciously searches for his warmth

Hi! I just reread Bill vs. Bill and I'm so intrigued by a very specific part. It's when Dipper shows the other Bill the mark on his hand. It implies that Dipper belongs to Bill, and to be honest, it's not that weird; in fact, Dipper seems to accept it pretty well. However, the other Bill's exaggerated and horrified reaction is totally different. It makes me wonder if that kind of mark has a more creepy meaning for demons, or if he just found it terrible because the mark is on a human, specifically because it was made by an alternate universe version of himself.
It's the creepiest thing possible for demons, and even more so because it's on a human! Triply so for Other Bill, seeing it on a Big Stupid Nerd like a Dipper.
Like, who wouldn't flinch back from seeing that your alternate self gave a gross little mortal a huge goddamn wedding mark? And having shoved it in your face? Disgusting!

went through familiar au mania (again) but today i drew some stuff @tswwwit
kk.
The idea of a demon dipper - specifically him being a succubus - is so funny to me because like. He'd be the worst at it.
Sure he's a smart and clever guy, but he's also nerdy and awkward as hell. Trying to negotiate or make deals, or even seduce mortals? Going absolutely no where, poor guy.
You're absolutely correct! Even the natural inclinations of an incubus can't overcome the Sheer Awkward embedded in his soul. Even beings who're into the whole 'weird nerd' archetype find him offputting at best. Something about the actual 'good guy' vibes he emits.
As far as succubi/incubi go, he's a total nerd loser. Couldn't make a deal to save his life! And who's ever heard about an incubus into commitment? What a weirdo.
Bill's 1000% into every drop of this, of course! But he knows who he's looking at. And he's pretty weird himself!

Something thats been rattling into my mind lately is how would a first (reunion) meeting go with a reincarnation from BEFORE Bill's whole ordeal was established in the human realm. Like, when it was too early for people to recognize that picking up (apparently) random humans was something Bill did every now and then. And therefore when a reincarnation would have even less of a clue about WHY this was happening to him.
Now that you said Bill would slather the first ever reincarnation with attention tho, it got even funnier!!! Because i just KNOW Bill back then would have only the slightest bit more chill compared to Widower!Bill!!! The first reincarnation would be even more confused/concerned poor guy...
You're right and you should say it! All that incarnation would know is that Bill Cipher, known monster, is somehow HERE and ALL OVER HIM and it would be VERY ALARMING.
I also imagine that Bill, glad to see that the reincarnation setup worked, wouldn't think to play his little game of 'guess why I'm after you!'. He'd be too annoyed that Dipper didn't straight up remember, and shaking his fist at the Axolotl about it being a Dick Move.
