Summary: A brief phone call between Diana Venicia and Mark "Mayhem" Berskii.
Word Count: 420
A/N: This was written for a quick writing piece for class, so it’s not that romantic (sorry, five Diamark fans). But since you're here, don't forget your daily clicks!
The phone rang. On the second ring, it was picked up. “Hello?”
“Hi, Diana,” said the voice on the other end.
Her voice displayed clear happiness. “Oh, hello, Mark! I was getting myself ready for the day.”
“Okay.” Mark paused. “Do you want me to hang up?”
“No, it’s okay,” Diana replied. “I’m just doing my makeup right now. Are you doing anything?”
“I figured. You sound tired.” She hesitated. “Did something happen?”
“Why would something happen?”
“You don’t usually call me. Actually, I think this is the first time this happened. It makes me wonder if something happened, like you desperately need help, and I’m the only one you can go to.”
“No, nothing happened. I just...felt like calling you. Talking to you.”
“Oh, that’s fine with me! I was getting so worried about nothing...” There was a slight pause before Diana continued. “So, are you doing anything today?”
“If that’s the case, do you want to come hang out with me and some of my friends? We’re not going anywhere special, and there won’t be a lot of people.”
“I’m fine.” Mark sighed. “I’m already sick of being dragged places...”
“Your friend group seems so fun, though!”
“They’re loud. Very loud.” His annoyance was obvious.
She laughed. “Maybe that’s what you need, loud people who force you to go to places. It’s not good to spend so much time by yourself!”
Mark was quiet. “Not today. I don’t want to do anything today...”
“That’s alright. We all have those days. Do you want to go out some other time, though?”
“Yeah, like to the park, the movies, the mall, wherever you want. I’m not picky. I thought that since we’re talking right now, we might as well plan something. That’s the fun part about calling people!”
“We can go somewhere. You don’t have anything specific in mind?”
“Like I said, I’m fine with anything,” she said slowly, “but I would be lying if I said there wasn’t somewhere I want to go. A chain restaurant I really wanted to try to will open their first restaurant in America next week. If you don’t mind...”
“Let’s go next week when it opens.”
“Oh, yay! Thank you, Mark!” There was a second of silence. “Oh, I just saw the time. I have to go now, but I’ll call you when I get back! And remember to be free next week!”
“Great! Then it’s a date!” The phone call ended.
