Am I the only person who noticed this?!

An intentional motif that spans not one, but two movies, with increasing intensity.

The touch of a hand is a powerful thing between Branch and Poppy. In the first movie it restores Branch’s colors. In the second, it’s a love confession. They often hold each other’s hands during emotional moments in the 2D series as well.

After watching the friendzone clip that I've uploaded earlier a few more times, I had an epiphany. I finally understand the meaning of their high five at the climax of the film.

After Poppy says "aside from being your friend" and the word 'friend' is said on repeat in Branch's mind, Branch looks very out of sorts and disheartened.

See?

Poppy's unintentional friendzoning has thrown him out of a loop. Don't worry baby, you just gotta be a bit more patient.

But then, Poppy asks for a high five... And this is the result:

They failed to do it, and believe me, it wasn't a "too slow" joke. So, they try again...

With even worse luck.

And after this, Poppy says something. And it is what she says that triggered my epiphany.

She says something like, "We don't seem to connect very well..."

THAT'S THE MEANING OF THEIR HIGH FIVE.

It means they connect well with each other!

So the moment this happens:

It'll be because these two have finally fully and completely connected.
