Weirdly enough, I actually know the answer to this one. So for all those who are curious: Waaaaay back in the middle ages it was a not uncommon practice/fad/thing to use rhyming “slang” as a nickname! So Rob turns to Bob, William/Willy turns to Billy (also Will to Bill), Richard/Rick turns to Dick, etc. So yeah, the name Dick actually derived from a quirky middle age fad. Hooray!
