HPHM is a scholarly project and fanfiction resource that is trying to investigate where queer intimacy happens in the world of Harry Potter. We’re reading Drarry and WolfStar fics and mapping each intimate or sexual encounter, trying to see if certain places within the world J.K. Rowling built are more open to queer sex than others. Does the Room of Requirement make the best hookup spot? Or is the Shrieking Shack more secluded? Or maybe its best to just make out in front of everyone in the Great Hall?

Our goal is to better understand how fanfiction writers make space for queer relationships, how they (or maybe I should say we!) interact with the canon, generate conventions, and what types of spaces in the wizarding world are available for queer sex. This will help us theorize about the way fanfiction writers read, form communities, and actively resist the largely heterosexual work of the canon. At the same time, the completed map will serve as a resource for fic-finding!
