It's so weird how, whatever we can think of and with all the info on the finale, we still CAN'T find a credible theory to explain the February 2025 leaks.
There's been a long time since I've wrote meta. But I just need to let this out. You know how I interpret the last scenes of the Good Omens Finale? As subversive. I think they wanted/tried to go into a whole new level of meta-fiction. The plot was literally undermining and erasing itself with the whole "book of life erasing stuff and therefore rewriting history"... it changed the plot entirely. It started manipulating the narrative so much so, that the story itself changed genre: from comedy to, yes, TRAGEDY. And that is why the characters sacrificed themselves FOR THE STORY. They don't want a universe ruined by the "Second Coming" planned by the (former) author... so they rewrote the literal story that had long ago started with the premise of a God that "plays an ineffable game of her own devising, blah, blah... ineffable plan". And this IS a THING in literature.
The characters experience a literal collapse of their world's rules. It's called "Ontological Metalepsis":
a narrative device where the boundary between different worlds or levels of existence—specifically between the world of the telling (in this case narrator) and the world of the told (in this case the characters)—is broken, allowing for unnatural, paradoxical, or "real" physical, interpenetration between them.
Isn't that what we saw?? The literal physical laws of Aziraphale and Crowley's universe started changing around them "something's wrong" (everything was disappearing outta nowhere within the story/ the previous author is a scum and can no longer touch this story), forcing them to make a decision and adapt the whole story in a way they deemed to be a good one, with a good ending (or good beginning to new characters) thus changing the genre of the story entirely from a comedy to a tragedy, where they choose to die in order to save new characters from the previous Universe they no longer want anyone to live in. Azi and Crowley defied what was real in the story, they kinda became the rebels of the Author himself (of NG) Because the creators of this movie want these beloved characters to transcend NG, and somehow refuse to be tainted by him... That's a nice food for thought. It happens in-story but speaking indirectly to the real-world, to us, the audience. It's as existentialist as The Truman Show, because Azi and Crowley experience that existential dread upon realizing that their memories, personalities, and the whole environment is about to be edited out and rewritten by their own decision, which is as powerful/the same as the internal narrative force. In short: Satan is NG, who mudded it all. So they said goodbye.
AND... if you watch the movie again through this lense, you'll find A LOT of symbols, parallels, etc, to the show being cancelled, fought for, reopened, the gangster who had to sign the contract to liberate the story/the Bentley, the memory of every character living on despite the mudded name of the writer, very direct lines, etc, etc.... (PLEASE START THE METAS 😊)
So, I think I "found the Lady" (God, the queen, the dim one, detective stories, deductions, Sherlockian imagery, the same picture of the lady in the mirror from BBC Sherlock's The Abominable Bride when Jesus is learning the Lady trick, etc, etc) --I'm so tired of Sherlock btw, never stops following me--
Am I making sense? I can't see well through the tears.
I'm tired and rambling. But I've decided that's my interpretation of the Good Omens: The Finale. It's a message, a statement, honoring Terry.
Those who know more about literature analysis and aren't as rusty as me, please let yourselves be heard. I'd love to read your comments.
RE: the playlist Michael Sheen made public on January 6th, 2025, after reading the script for "Good Omens 3" (a thorough meta for each song's choice and its lyrics)
Michael shared this very slyly, because he knows his Spotify account (MS1) is only known by a minority of people; he doesn't publicly advertise it, and he's already used it before as a little treat for his dedicated fans. I mean, so far, there's only 921 of us who've saved this playlist! He made it on Jan, 6th, 2025, with 19 Thake That songs (including a hidden track) and later in the year, he added two more.
[Edit: This post has been sleeping in my drafts forever. I know it's been almost a year, but better late than never. And thank God I saved this, because I didn't know there's no way to see the date when a Spotify playlist was created, so you'll have to take my word for it.]
[Second edit: I just finished this real quick in view of the new screenshot from GO3 that just dropped, which shows Crowley with a stubble, being held with arms behind his back, unable to free himself, and a hint of brown in his eyes which you can read about in @sendarya 's discord where we're going mad rn. If you wanna know more, and be instantly notified on news for the GO3 release, head over there.]
Since he threw us this big bone, I've been zestfully gnawing at it. I listen to these 21 songs almost daily. Knowing that Michael pays great attention to detail in this show, quizzing David about all the easter-eggs while filming, and generally being an annoying fan, the fact that he chose to make this playlist public for us to listen to fills me with joy. But I still haven't seen anyone dissect them for clues. There are LOTS of LITERAL mentions of Earth, angels and demons... and humans. So, if you'd like to know about the hints (or redherrings) that Michael's given us for the characters' emotional arc, and their link a specific theory already out there, venture under the cut.
Brace yourself.
I've trimmed the lyrics in order to analyze them, but I strongly recommend listening to the songs, since the melody tells a whole story, and the repetitive lines, words, and choruses are normally used as a rhetorical device: not just to create rhythm, but to emphasize a point or helping you to get what the song is really about.
I'll go through the 21 songs in the order he put them. Some of them are quite straightforward, in that they could be interpreted from Azi's and/or Crowley's POV. Others leave you making connections. The lyrics are indented in italics, most meaningful parts in bold. Let us start.
#1. "PATIENCE"
Just have a little patience
Still hurting from a love I lost
I'm feeling your frustration
But any minute all the pain will stop.
The request for patience seems a little on the nose as a message for us the fans anticipating the release of the film. But could also hint to Azi's plead for Crowley to wait for his return while he's in heaven doing whatever plan he's got (his smile in the elevator suggested as much). They've just had the worst estrangement right after a huge relationship upgrade (Crowley's confession and kiss), and both are certainly hurting from that lost love. There's also the acknowledgment of each other's frustration, but the promise that they will reunite and eventually all that pain will stop.
Just hold me close inside your arms tonight
Don't be too hard on my emotions.
I really wanna start over again
I know you wanna be my salvation
The one that I can always depend
This screams to me that Azi is grateful for the numerous times Crowley has come through for him, and knows he wants to be his salvation. But now may be the time for a crucial part of Azi's narrative arc. It's been foreshadowed: "Why don't you stand up for yourself? Make your own plans?"
I'll try to be strong, believe me
I'm trying to move on
It's complicated but understand me
'Cause these scars run so deep
It's been hard
But I have to believe
'Cause I need time
My heart is numb, has no feeling
So while I'm still healing
Just try and have a little patience
Maybe Azi will try to be strong without Crowley's help. He sees how this particular problem is complicated due to their different ideologies ("heaven is toxic" vs. "heaven is the side of truth, of good"). Even though Azi would like for Crowley to believe and understand his point of view, he might be resolved to make his own heart numb: ignore his own feelings for Crowley, if that's what it takes "having to believe" in himself. He just "needs time" to "make a difference".
#2. "RULE THE WORLD"
You light the skies, up above me
A star, so bright, you blind me
What a love letter this song is. Angel-Crowley's literally the one who started the Universe as we know it by saying "let there be light", thus creating the first star-factory aka nebula. Azi was visibly charmed witnessing the "kind of angel he was".
Don't close your eyesDon't fade away.
If walls break down, I will comfort you
If angels cry, oh I'll be there for you
You've saved my soul
Don't leave me now, don't leave me now
We're surely going to see them grieve the loss of each other - that's a given. It does say it's the Angel who cries, and I'd really like to see Azi shed a tear this time, maybe when apologizing to Crowley. Also Michael could've thought of the infamous line "you could always rely on me. I could always rely on you". Either way, the lines "You've saved my soul, don't leave me now", is a sentiment both A & C share.
"Don't fade away" could hint to one of them in danger of/being erased from the Book of Life. The threat's already canon anyway, and we saw Crowley's fierce dread of losing Aziraphale forever.
You and me, we can ride on a star
If you stay with me
We can light up the sky
If you stay by my side
We can rule the world
All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you
This romantic proposal reminds me of Crowley's offer. At the bandstand: "It's a big Universe. Even if this all ends up in a puddle of burning goo we can go off together." In the sidewalk: "We can run away together. Alpha Centauri! (...) Nobody would even notice us." Then again in the final 15: "If Gabriel and Beelzebub can do it, go off together, then we can! Just the two of us (...) Just be an us. You and me." I recommend reading @alexunbalanced post on the poetic symbolism of Alpha Centauri as a binary star system.
Maybe we'll see them enjoying a little ride among the stars, in some way or another. It isn't too farfetched to think that if Crowley actually proposed it THREE TIMES in the story, that could be a good omen.
#3. "SHINE"
The lyrics and overall tone of this song suggest a moment of transformation for someone - a shift from the old self to a more confident version. So there might be some kind of breakthrough moment for Aziraphale and/or Crowley, which fits as character development. Also, the narrating voice is like the supportive friend/partner cheering the other on with no judgement, trying to make them see their true potential, that they have everything they need to "shine" and feel strong, capable, and seen. The metaphor is "come out of darkness and step into the light". I'm not adding here all the lyrics because it's a long song with repetitive meaning, but there are a couple of lines that stand out to me:
You're such a big star to me
You're everything I wanna be
This makes me think it might be Azi's thoughts. Also reminds me of the times Crowley has implied Azi would rather be in his place than having to answer to heaven ("you sound jealous, Angel")
Stop being so hard on yourself
I know that you can changeYou only have to open your eyes
You might just get a big surprise
And it may feel good
And you might want to smile
Oh, don't you let your demons pull you down
'Cause you can have it all
More clues at this being a sentiment from the Angel to the Demon, who's described himself as an "occult force". AND maybe the "open your eyes / big surprise" thing could mean Crowley's eyes may change back to how they were in The Beginning (bear with me here there's much more of that, I'm not here to judge, just to theorize).
Let me know you, let me show you, let me love you,
you're all that matters to me.
Very straight forward. But the "know you" part reminds me of Azi constantly implying that he knows Crowley, and Crowley replying he actually doesn't. ("Are you sure, Angel?" "Quite sure". / "You know, Crowley, I've always said that deep down you really are quite a nice -" "Shut it! I'm a demon, I'm not nice. I'm never nice." / "I know the Angel you were." "The Angel you knew... is not me.")
#4. "NEVER FORGET"
This choice of song by Michael is quite amazing. I'll tell you why. It was made as a sort of goodbye (the band knew they weren't as famous as before and wanted to kind of salute their audience). It is a bittersweet song and its chorus has that perfect fanfare feeling of a celebratory story ending. I can totally understand Michael listening to it in order to be in that same mindset: a good ending, but one that will shift A&C's lives in an unexpected way. Just like David also said, the ending may be controversial in the fandom. Again, bare with me.
We've come a long way
But we're not too sure where we've been
We've had success, we've had good times
But remember this:
Been on this path of life for so long
Feel I've walked a thousand miles
Sometimes strolled hand in hand with love
Finding a paradise wasn't easy but still
There's a road going down the other side of this hill.
A&C have actually been "on this path of life for so long", "thousands of miles", and "hand in hand with love": six millennia pining for each other in shared history on Earth to be exact (according to the Good Omens creationist Universe, they met right before "The Beginning").
BUT the thing is, the lyrics continue:
Feel each day we've come too far
Yet each day seems to make much moreSure is good to be here
I understand the meaning of "I can't explain this feeling" now
And it feels so unreal
At night I see the hand that reminds me of the stand that I made
The fact of reality
In other words: "Being with you will always remind me of the moment when I stood up for something important / took a firm position / made a bold choice." (Remember the line "we've come to a decision") I mean, a decision or position they will have to take in order to defend either something or a belief, a change so radical in their lives that is a "new reality" in which they finally get to understand a feeling or emotion they were always marveled by, but couldn't possibly explain before? I'm sorry but, you saw it coming and here it is (even though many of us would take this as a bittersweet ending) for me, this screams "THEY'LL TURN HUMAN" living on their chosen "Paradise": Earth. But there's more:
We've come so far and we've reached so high
And we've looked each day and night in the eye
And we're still so young and we hope for more
But remember this:
We're not invincible, we're not invincible,
We're only people, we're only people.
Never forget where you've come here from
Never forget for love.
"We're not invincible. WE'RE ONLY PEOPLE." Is this going to happen?
"We're not invinsible (anymore)... we're only people." Let that sink in. Our heroes Azi and Crowley will indeed make a great deal of difference anyway (most likely before becoming human). And I totally get why The Script of GO3 would want to cater to us, the fans, but not exactly the way we want to (Again, David's warning about the ending).
I can see the creators thinking of this: we all know they must end up together as a couple, and yes the concept of LOVE can be broad and/or ethereal. BUT, there's been too much queerbait on the telly and we're tired of it so we're in catch 22 situation: if you really want them to end up together, in *ahem* EVERY WAY, then they MUST TURN INTO HUMANS, you can't have one without the other. And that, to me, would be a perfectly bittersweet ending, one in which we get to have the "happily" but not the "forever after". It would also mean a bunch of things in the story were more than a little contrived, and many chips will fall in place (if you're not familiar with the "they'll become human" theory, please look it up).
In this case, ANY suggestion or implication of intimacy between Aziraphale & Crowley could be rightfully interpreted as: yes, this is a story where the main characters end up together, and celebrated, as an explicitly romantic gay couple, thus fulfilling their parallel to Maggie and Nina, among other things. Maybe plot could push them where whatever they did makes them no longer allowed to continue as powerful Entities, so instead of being erased from the Book of Life, they could, "as a kindness", exist like humans, uncapable of living eternally, but very capable of living happily, feeling for each other something else than what they are used to, something that Angels nor Demons can explain. Plus, that way we can get an end-story message among the lines of "dear audience, you can actually make a difference in this World as the Human you are, you don't need to have miraculous powers, the real good is in the blurred edges, not as Angels or Demons in Heaven or Hell, but in YOUR DESICIONS, using your free will KNOWING the difference between Good and Bad". That to me is an awesome way of leaving us thinking if that was the Ineffable Plan all along, for Aziraphale and Crowley to literally "shape history" on Earth with every decision they ever took, in the exact way we saw them do in all those flashbacks. Crowley would've been right all along questioning the fact that the apple was right there for Eve to grab, as if testing their free will -not only Eve's- but Crowley's. He was the one who started it all, proposing exactly the existence of FREE WILL:
Well, THAT, to me, would be the poker game God intended to play: give Crowley the chance to think (and decide) whether or not it'd be good for humans to know the difference between right or wrong themselves and go suggest it to Eve? God silently watching it all?
This is not such a farfetched idea, given that this very concept was established in the fist scene of S1 by Crowley himself, when the Ineffable Plan (not the Great Plan, mind you) would've already started (and with a sense of humor God must surely enjoyed):
CROWLEY: I can't see what's so bad about knowing the difference between good and evil, anyway (...) Not very subtle of the Almighty, though. Fruit tree in the middle of a garden with a "don't touch" sign. Why not put it on the top of a high mountain? Or on the moon? Makes you wonder what God's really planning.
AZIRAPHALE: Best not to speculate. It's all part of the Great Plan. It's not for us to understand. It's Ineffable.
CROWLEY: The Great Plan's Ineffable?
NOPE. It never was. In fact it was questioned again in Armaggedon't, which in the book was even more on the nose. But in the adaptation they chose Gabriel to have this exchange instead of the Metatron:
AZIRAPHALE: Excuse me. You keep talking about the Great Plan...
GABRIEL: Aziraphale, maybe you should just keep your mouth shut.
(I always wondered, why is Gabriel so defensive there? Did he know something about "The Great Plan" that the others didn't?)
AZIRAPHALE: One thing I'm not clear on. Is that the Ineffable Plan?
BEELZEBUB: The Great Plan! It is written. There shall be a World, and it shall last for 6,000 years and end in fire and flame.
AZIRAPHALE: Yes, yes, that sounds like the Great Plan. Just wondering, is that the Ineffable Plan, as well?
GABRIEL: Well, they're the same thing.
CROWLEY: (to himself) You don't know. (to Gabriel) Uh... Well, it'd be a pity if you'd thought you were doing what the Great Plan said, but you were actually going directly against God's Ineffable Plan...
CROWLEY: (cont.) Well, it's ineffable, isn't it? By definition, we can't know it.
BEELZEBUB: But it is... written.
It was written. Then, was this entirely different Non-Ineffable -and therefore Not-Devine- Plan written down as The Great Plan by Heaven's Number One Guy who claims to "speak in the name of God"? I personally would love to see Sir Derek Jacobi revealing the Metatron in full Evil glory. But we'll have to wait and see.
GABRIEL: God does not play games with the universe.
YES. YES, SHE DOES. She said it herself at the start of the show. God might not play "dice" with the Universe, but She plays an "Ineffable Game" of Her own devising. Which "for everyone else, it's like playing poker in a pitch-dark room for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules and who smiles all the time." (There's so much delicious analogy to unpack there about the whole plot of the story itself seen as a rigged poker game with pot, players, bluffs, tells, calls, folds, raise and a long-con play that ends with the table overturned.)
"Heaven, Hell, Demons, Angels... it's all pointless." That would honestly be quite impressive. They both get to do what they want without being reprimanded for it. And God would have intended it. You see how important a message that would be? Besides, we'll always have fanfiction and fanart for them to live forever. Crowley himself already despised the idea of ETERNITY anyway. People tell their truth when they're drunk, and all that:
So, the question is, are we going to see them changing into "real people" a la Doctor Who? We can only wait and see.
#5. "BACK FOR GOOD"
This is a very well known love song about regret after a breakup, promising to change, and hoping for the partner to return and reconcile. The F 15' was, indeed, a breakup.
I guess now it's time for me to give up
I feel it's time
Got a picture of you beside me
Got your lipstick mark still on your coffee cup
Got a fist of pure emotion
Got a head of shattered dreams
Gotta leave it, gotta leave it all behind now
Again with the picture. Well, in the Lockdown episode, we saw that Aziraphale already has a picture of Crowley in his bookshop.
Unaware but underlined I figured out this story
It wasn't good
But in the corner of my mind
I celebrated glory
But that was not to be
In the twist of separation you excelled at being free
Can't you find a little room inside for me
Whatever I said, whatever I did I didn't mean it
I just want you back for good
Whenever I'm wrong just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
I honestly think that bit was the only reason why he added this song. It's just literally what we've already seen.
Are we gonna see Aziraphale do the apology dance? Or is it a tease?
And we'll be together, this time is forever
We'll be fighting and forever we will be
So complete in our love
We will never be uncovered again.
I guess now it's time, that you came back for good
#6. "GREATEST DAY"
Today this could be the greatest day of our lives
Before it all ends, before we run out of time
Stay close to me
Watch the world come alive tonight
"Run out of time", as in mortality. Enjoying life on Earth.
Tonight this could be the greatest night of our lives
Let's make a new start, the future is ours to findCan you see it, can you see it in my eyes?
Can you feel it now, can you hold it in your arms tonight?
"A new start" as humans. And yet another reference to the eyes.
Hold on, tonight
Hold your head high, arms open wide
The world starts to come alive when you stay close to me
And the world comes alive
Their influence in the World and the World's influence on them.
#7. "THE FLOOD"
Even though the title instantly reminds us of the historical Flood, where we saw A&C watching Noa and his family take the animals to the Arc, I don't think this is just a reference to that. This song was released when Take That reunited with Robbie Williams after years apart and it symbolizes the challenges and emotions that his return implied. In short, this song is about overcoming a huge wave of difficulties and starting again together. The main message is unity, and teamwork while fighting back despite adversity. You see how this fits with Aziraphale and Crowley having to fight together to save the World/themselves from Heaven/Hell.
(Sounds of thunderstorm)
Standing on the edge of forever
At the start of whatever
Shouting love at the world
Back then, we were like cavemen
But we mapped the Moon and the stars
Then we forgave them
We will meet you where the lights are
The defenders of the faith we are
Where the thunder turns around
They'll run so hard we'll tear the ground away
You know no one dies
In these love drowned eyes
Through our love drowned eyes
We'll watch you sleep tonight
Although no one understood
We were holding back the floodLearning how to dance the rain
It's about facing a metaphorical storm, with lighting and thunder and pouring rain. Amnesiac Jimbriel in S2E3 got a memory triggered by Crowley's use of the word "tempest". We heard him repeat God's own words, like a prediction of something that's yet to come:
"There will come a tempest, and darkness, and great storms. And the dead will leave their graves and walk the Earth once more. And there will be great lamentations. Every day it's getting closer."
They said we'd never dance again
Bleeding, but none of us leaving
Watch your mouth son
Or you'll find yourself floating home.
Here we come now on a dark star
Seeing demons, not what we are
The "dark star" still fits with the same idea, and the mention of the "demons" sound like a good reason to choose this song in itself. So, we can say whatever the fight is for, it will probably involve Demons.
Tiny minds and eager hands will try to strike
But now will end today
There's progress now
Where there once was none
Then everything came along
There was more of them than us
Now they'll never dance again
(Sounds of thunder and rain)
"More of them than us" makes me think A&C will either fight for themselves or with the Humans.
#8. "PRAY"
This just seems like from Aziraphale's POV for obvious reasons.
When the time grew near, For me to show my love
The longer I stayed away for.
Hiding from a word I need to hear now
Don't think I'll hear it again
Uh, "love"?
But the nights were always warm with you
Holding you right by my side
But the morning always comes too soon
Before I even close my eyes
All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I'll be a part of you again someday
All I do each night is think
Of all the times I closed the door to keep my love within
If you can't forgive the past I'll understand that
Can't understand why I did this to you
And all of the days and the nights so I regret it
I never showed you my love.
Time for the "I love you" confession... and to show it in a romantic fashion too if possible would be very nice.
Surely we must be in sight, Of the dream we long to live
If you stop and close your eyes, You'll picture me inside
I'm so cold and all alone.
Straight on back to me
Come on, time is running out. You and me, harmony.
Time does run out when you're human.
#9. "COULD IT BE MAGIC"
Now is turn to have a song from Crowley's POV, as if he was talking about his Angel. He's totally smitten, head over heels for Aziraphale. Also, if Azi becomes human, he could verify no miracles are involved in his art of prestidigitation, it's only the good ol' human magic he's been always fond of (and drive Crowley up the wall with it).
Sun, sun
Spirits move me, every time I'm near you
Whirling like a cyclone in my mind
You're my life line, angel of my lifetime
Answer to all answers I can find
Baby I want you.
*** Insert here every time Crowley calls Azi "Angel" ***
Come, come, come into my arms
Let me feel the wonder of all of you
Could it be magic now, now, now and hold on fast
Could this be the magic at last?
Baby, take me high upon a hillside
High up where the stallion meets the sun
I could love you, build my world around you
Never leave you 'til my life is done
Loyal to you for the rest of my life. Right, gimme all the romance tropes.
#10. "BEAUTIFUL WORLD"
Here, standing in the rain
The sun has gone again and nothing's gonna change.
Time, I need a little time. As you slip out of sight
And nothing heals the pain.
And I know that it's you. That's stopping me from falling.
Crashing down, losing ground. 'Til I see you again
Excuse me? Catching me? Stopping me from falling and crashing down? Literally? If you think it's a coincidence, bare with me because another song that follows says in other words exactly the same.
And you know. The sun will shine, and we will see
There's nothing standing in our way
Our love will stand and never break
I never thought this could be me.
Do you feel what I feel
Every time that you are near, it's a beautiful world.
Words are hard to keep inside
Even though I've tried, impossible to hide
I'll be the stars guiding you. I'll be the place that you hide
I'd run a thousand miles. To be by your side.
I need to say that, beside the romance here, it specifically mentions a NEW type of feeling. That one humans feel when they are releasing oxytocin from being near the person they are in love with. Just saying.
#11. "SAID IT ALL"
When the tears fall away And there's no conversation
There's nothing left to break That's not already broken
You're staring into space And every inch of silence
Been standing here for days, and days.
Said it all. Nothing to say at all
Nothing to say that matters. Haven't we heard enough?
Doesn't matter any more.
"And they are not talking" comes to mind for the beginning of the film. Also, not the "tears", please! But then of course there will come the goosebumps when they must talk to each other again:
In the sudden light of day The weight of expectation
Hurt begins to fade As you find a new direction
Been talking here for days, and days, and days.
All of the miles of words we've spoken
All of the lines that got away
Didn't we take the time to say them all?
Haven't we said it all?
#12. "THE GARDEN"
And the fishermen came back across the water
And the people started running in the park
And the city stopped, as I held you in my arms.
We could hear the sound of sirens all around us
And the scent of burning oil was in the air
And the music played And it felt so good to hear.
This is the life we've been given
So open your mind and start living
We can play our part if we only start believing.
This works with the idea of them becoming human, and start living "the life they've been given".
There's a stranger on the hill and he is speaking
As the tears from every cloud begin to fall
For one moment then, we understood it all
Everyone, everyone, can you hear the soldiers coming
Everyone, everyone, every man and every woman
We all fall, in the end we're just miracles of matter
The miracle of being a mortal human made of matter. Like, literally, "in the end (they'll be) just miracles of matter"? It was Ray Bradbury who famously wrote "We are the miracle of force and matter making itself over into imagination and will". This quote highlights the transformation of physical existence into conscious creativity, often used to describe the wonder of life and human potential. It emphasizes that humanity is both the experiment and the observer of the universe. And I have to add that Carl Sagan himself said: "The Cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the Universe to know itself." He meant that nearly all elements in the human body (carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen) were forged inside stars and supernovae billions of years ago. Clearly Take That was inspired by it and put it in the lyrics. Do you see what I mean when I say it'd be poetic for Crowley to look up at the stars and admire the product of his own creation? He'd be the creator literally made of particles from those stars.
So come on, let me love you.
'Cause this is the life we've been given
So open your heart and start loving
We can make a start if we only learn to listen.
Then the crowd began to head for the horizon
A million people walking back to work
But you and me, we just lay down in the garden.
Yeah, the garden.
South Downs? Anyone? I meant doesn't have to be that specific place, but if they were to be human, they'd need a new place to live together which is equipped with everything a human needs. Like a toilet.
#13. "LIKE I NEVER LOVED YOU AT ALL"
Where, where are the stars?
The ones that we used to call ours.
Can't imagine it now We used to laugh 'til we fell down.
The secrets we had, are now in the past
From something to nothing, tell me
How did we lose our way?
It's hard to remember all that we shared
Now we both have separate lives
From lovers to strangers, now alone.
There's no one catching my fall
No one to hear my call It's like I never loved you at all.
Again, estrangement. Also could we get to see Crowley falling again somehow and this time being catched by Aziraphale? My poor heart.
Now you're so far away And I see our star is fading
One too many times Guess it just got tired of waiting around
The nights that we thought, if these walls could talk
From something to nothing. So, now does he give you love
Is it only me now that's thinking of What we had and what we were
Did you ever care Baby, was I ever there?
#14. "BABE"
I swear this one is Michael taking the piss. It tells such a cheesy story. Albeit something in it, or akin to it, may happen. Just read the lyrics. I've got nothing to add to this, like, wtf.
(Phone dial tone. Intercept message: "We're sorry. Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and dial again")
I come to your door To see you again
But where you once stood Was an old man instead
I asked where you'd be He said "she's moved on, you see
all I have is a number you'd better ask her, not me"
So I picked up the phone And dialed your number
Not sure to put it down or speak.
Then a voice I once knew Answered in a sweet voice
She said "hello" then paused Before I began to speak:
"Babe, I'm here again I tell you I'm here again, babe
Where have you been? Babe, I'm back again
I tell you I'm back again, babe Where have you been?"
You held your voice well There were tears I could tell
But where were you now Was you gonna tell me in time?
Just give me a town And I'll be straight down
I've got so much to tell you About where I have been.
As I walk down your road Can't wait to be near you
I can't keep this feeling inside.
As I stand at your door You answer in a sweet voice
You say "hello" then pause Before I begin to speak:
"Babe, I'm here again I tell you I'm here again, babe
Where have you been? Babe, I'm back again
I tell you I'm back again, babe Where have you been?"
As you looked away I saw a face behind you
A little boy stood at your door And when I looked again
I saw his face was shining He had my eyes
He had my smile Babe, I'm back again
Babe, please take me back Take me back home again
Can't you see that I'm back again?
I'm here for you Babe, just me and you
You and me, babe. (Phone dial tone. Someone picks up.)
#15. "WHEN WE WERE YOUNG"
When we were young, the world seemed so old
Careless and cold
We did what we were told in our lives
They did in fact, break, gone native, stop doing what the institution told them to do. At least Crowley did. But could Azi realize he should do the same as well? Not to get to do what he's told by the corrupt Heaven.
Have the world by the tail
Good would prevail
Starships would sail
And none of us would fail in this life
Not when you're young.
We were drawn to whoever could keep us together
And bound by the Heavens above
And we tried to survive
Traveling at the speed of love.
When we were young
When we adored the fabulous
We were the foolish, fearless
Never knowing the cost of what we paid
Letting someone else be strong
In a moment of grace, a long leap of faith
When they were "young", as in, they had 6000 years of not aging: they were "foolish" not to act on the fact that they could spend it together? And now they only have left a "moment of grace" together? The cost of paying being eternal beings in order to save the Earth? Would become human be for them a long leap of faith?
There's still more glorious dawn awaits
It's my life, I'm here with the lovers
Then we burned the bridges we're crossing over
Just to see the firelight
And the innocent are getting over
Being old tonight.
When we were young
When everything was what it seemed
And every day was how we dreamed.
And when you look at yourself tonight
Are you someone you recognize?
You can take back what you've given away
But it must be the last time.
When we were young
We didn't know it wouldn't last.
Life together won't last forever but it's worth it.
#16. "A MILLION LOVE SONGS"
Put your head against my life
What do you hear?
A million words just trying to make
The love song of the year.
Close your eyes, but don't forget
What you have heard
A man who's trying to say three words
The words that make me scared.
Is "I love you" going to be said? It has to, right? At last, and instead of "I forgive you"
A million love songs later
And here I am trying to tell you that I care
And here I am.
Looking to the future now
This is what I see
A million chances pass me by
A million chances to hold you
Take me back, take me back
To where I used to be
And hide away from all my truths
Through the light I see.
I feel for you, babe.
A million love songs later
And here I… here I am.
The first moment they see each other when they actually reunite?
#17. "WOODEN BOAT"
It's about the tale of a human lifetime. And how short but deep and meaningful it can be in those moments of eternity.
A little boy me went fishing in a wooden boat
Sitting there for hours in the cold
Patience is a virtue 'til we die
Then a ripple in the water caught my eye.
Sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for
That's the time to be the first one on the dance floor.
Dancing together.
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep, who knows how long will this last.
Only was last week I learnt to drive
Stole my mother's keys and drove all night
Christine never showed, it's 4 am
Started up mum's car drove home again.
One year ago I kissed my bride
Now I wait to hear my baby's cry
If they do turn into humans they can actually marry. Now the baby thing? Again with the concept of having a child together? Gosh.
Woman showed me all that she knew then
To cut himself down man's born again.
Christine died and now I'm here alone
What I wouldn't give to be on that wooden boat.
No one's gonna die... at least they won't yet. But the idea of spending their mortal lives together until they grow old and die is clearly there.
#18. "BUTTERFLY"
This song starts a couple of minutes after Wooden Boat. Whether or not it was hidden in the same track on purpose, we can't tell.
For once in my life I couldn't deny
I thought that I'd found my everything
A lover, a friend
Okay, confirmed. Friend AND lover... human love again?
The hours we'd spend Just doing nothing at all.
But your need to leave Is yours alone
Break free, let go.
Deep in your eyes It's there that I find
All that I really ever need
Whatever I do You know that It's you
In every face I see
Will we get the classic trope of the character seeing the one he loves in other people? Also mention of EYES again.
Your last goodbye was yours alone
Break free, let go.
Butterfly, fly away from here
I know we tried though the laughter and the tears.
You'll always be a part of me
And in my heart you'll always be butterfly
Fly, fly away
To the place you belong
Hope you're healed and feeling strong
Hope that you can find the freedom in your life
My sweet butterfly
Just fly away.
#19. "LOVE LOVE" (live version)
You bring me right back down to the Earth from the promised land
We're getting close to the center of the Earth with an honest plan
You'll never be your mother or your father, do you understand?
We'll take you right back down to the Earth from the mother land
This is a first class journey from the gods to the Son of Man
You're at the gates of human evolution, don't you understand?
Why don't you understand?
Understand
We don't have too much time here
And time it travels far too fast
We're not too far, we're too near
Before they take it from our hands
Why don't you teach your heart to feel
and give your love love, give your love love, give it all away
Why don't you teach your heart to talk
and give your love love, give your love love
Gimme, gimme what I need.
(Audience cheers.)
#20. "REACH OUT"
At some point during 2025 (I don't remember exactly when) Michael added this song and the next one into the playlist.
If our arms were reaching out
If our words could only bridge the doubt (the F15)
Will we lose this chance again?
Strange roads with different signs
Don't even know where we divide
Are you my enemy or my friend? (Duh)
'Cause I don't know you
And you don't know me
He is in fact, technically, a demon. / Spot on! Sent here to destroy you all! / But you said you wouldn't. / I'm a demon, I lied. / Be not afraid, you're perfectly safe. / Are you sure, Angel? / Yes, quite sure.
It's the same sun rising
We all just look to the sky
If we try, we can work it out somehow
If you don't know me and I don't know you
How can we be fighting
We're all connected, it's true
It's only love that pulls us through
We all grieve in different ways
If one tear could wash away the pain
We're all free to have the faith we believe
The world sleeps at different times
With one turn your day is now my night
We all live sharing the air that we breathe
Reaching out... Reaching high.
Touching you... Touching me. (EXCUSE ME)
It's only love that pulls us through
Imagine standing at a crossroads, knowing your choices define not just you but the world around you. In 'Good Omens', the characters Crowley and Aziraphale embody this very struggle, showcasing how
good and evil are not simply opposing forces, but elements on a spectrum. Their relationship illustrates that compassion and understanding can exist even amidst cosmic roles, inviting you to ponder your own moral decisions in the playful yet weighty dance of
good versus bad.
#21. "I'D WAIT FOR LIFE"
This one is very reminiscent of A&C's estrangement in the Final 15', and the mutual feeling of pining that will come after. Anyway, lets look for possible clues.
There's a place we used to be
There's a face that I used to see
There's a picture with you by my side
There's a moment that I wanna find
First line is pretty clear; they used to be in Heaven / Hell. Second, the face Aziraphale used to see in Crowley may indeed change as his eyes turn into those of a human. Third, if they actually take a picture together and keep it visible somewhere I'll die of cuteness. Fourth one makes me think of Crowley wanting to "find a moment" of his past that he doesn't recall. The memories before what he thinks was his "Fall", that we'd all be eager to see.
I don't know where to start, or how to begin
But I know I love you stillIf you ever turn away, if you ever change your mind
If the road ahead becomes too hard to climb
If there's something in your heart that tells you to stop
Oh, to hold you close... tonight... I'd wait for life
Here we've got A and/or C's hesitation in wording their feelings. The given fact that they love, and will help, each other (duh). They both wish for the other to change their mind. And, surely, their shared desire for physical touch. During night time, specifically.
There's a voice shouting inside my head
There's a space on your side of the bed
And there's a hope every time there's a sound
There's a silence that's playing too loud
I don't know where you are, or how you may be
But I know, I love you still
Again, banging on the "sleeping together" idea. Hoping for their reunion almost seem to hurt for them. They still don't know where to find each other.
If I close my eyes
I'll dream a little deeper, baby
'Cause you are always on my mind... for life
It'd be neat to see what's in their subconscious if we get to see either of them dreaming. Or they could discover what that feels like if they actually turn into people. The book mentions dreams, particularly through the idea of human imagination, with one quote stating that "What power would Hell have if those imprisoned were not able to dream of Heaven?". There's also the scene where the characters use a dream as a form of comfort, when Aziraphale tells the entranced former-nun: "You will wake having had a lovely dream about whatever you like best." Remember when Newt's talking with Shadwell about the town, he says "normal weather for the time of year isn't normal. Crisp autumns, long, hot Augusts... The kind of weather you used to dream of as a kid. It's snowed there every Christmas Eve for the last years." I don't know why but, is the infamous snow globe going to have something to do with a dream? The novel also uses this concept to explore themes of free will, imagination, and the power of what we believe to be real, and I mean, I just have to mention The Sandman, created by you know who. Here's a quote of his: "People think dreams aren't real just because they aren't made of matter, of particles. Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories and puns and lost hopes." It's not farfetched to speculate there will be something regarding dreams in the last episode of Good Omens.
-------
Finally. Those were the 21 songs. Don't let anyone stop you from disagreeing, agreeing, or adding to this post please feel free. No hate. Just theorizing based on evidence.
It took me an embarrassing amount of time to write all this down, but hopefully it was enjoyable and contributed to fuel the need for the impending GO3. Please feel free to add any thoughts you have on anything related to this post, I'm really looking forward to know about your ideas.
If you got this far: thanks for reading. Have a lovely day!
Also, I always had the strong feeling that the phrase we see flashing on the screen "He's not what he says he is", in the scene where Azi's reading Agnes Nutter's prophecy book could not only apply to The Metatron, (as in, he says he speaks for God but he's actually evil) but for Crowley too. "I'm not nice. I'm never nice!" = of course he is (he is in fact the nicest thing that could happen to humanity's further existence.) Combine that with him always saying stuff like "I didn't fall / I didn't mean to fall / I just sauntered vaguely downwards", plus that he literally said to Jimbriel, and very firmly: "I know! (that it hurts to remember whatever they erased from your mind) Do it anyway!", plus him reminiscing “I know... just looking where the furniture isn't", suggesting he also knows what it feels like to have something important removed from your memory, but the imprints remain, which is why he loves deeply and truly cares for Earth and people and has such a heart of gold. "I wasn't always a demon.", he tells Muriel, and the scene proves he was a high-ranking Angel (chosen to started the Universe) and yet... that makes me feel that he isn't actually a Demon. What if God's Ineffable Plan was to grant Crowley's wish for Free Will because she knew he was a Good Angel and that was actually a nice idea to give EVERYONE the chance to choose good/evil BEFORE we saw Crowley persuading Eve to eat the apple from the Tree of Knowledge so people could had free will as well (there's a chance that God implemented free will for everyone before "The Beginning", so it was indeed possible that some Angels rebelled because they already could choose sides), and she saw Crowley putting that to practice for 6000 years, every time he protected and cared for people, therefore shaping history as we know it... If we see it that way, everyone in Heaven as an institution could have been corrupted as well, and we have enough proof they are. Heaven is not the side of good and light. Only God and goodness is the side of light. And we never saw God in "Heaven", only The Metatron. I started rambling I gotta stop.
Well, folks... I am SO sad to say that we didn't even get this ending (which, imho, would've been much better than the one we got) because those human characters we saw wt the end WEREN'T Aziraphale and Crowley, just some random look-alikes. Because like Jimbriel thought us in S2 that without memories, you're just an empty house.
I'll be trying to recover, and maybe I'll have something positive to say later on. For now, I'll have some eccles cakes. Have a nice day.

When you understand it's not THEM, it's a version of them that don't even remember their 6000+ years of slow burn romance and friendship, which made them who they were before they stopped existing:
Some things you might have missed in the Good Omens S3 trailer.
I've seen a lot of good takes so far on so many aspects of the glorious 2 minutes we were handed this week, but I haven't had a chance to collect all of my little additions until now. Here are some things you might have missed, frame by frame. I promise, it'll be worth your time.
1. This crowd shot is from season 1
I really can't tell if they're pulling my leg and are just reusing unseen footage from season 1, or they physically/digitally recreated season 1 Whickber street, it's *that* good. But this is definitely our original home base, complete with pine green convertible with the same license plate, and correct cracks in the street. Will we be returning to the before times?
2. The second coming scroll is a giant checklist
I mean this isn't really a clue so much as really funny to me personally. Poor Aziraphale having to check off everything by hand.
3. We have 3 flies now
There's a blue and orange Nebula that is copied 3 times right next to the word behold. It's nebula NGC 5189 which is happens to be in the constellation Musca i.e. The Fly. I don't think that's a coincidence.
4. Jesus's cardigan is a mix of all the possible angel colours
Another kind of small mention, but I think it's really smart that Jesus' cardigan has bands of all three main angel colours: dove grey, cream and tan.
5. The Wizard of OZ reference
Peep the nice Wizard projector reference in this mysterious scene. The Metatron isn't hiding behind a curtain, but does that mean he's hiding something else about his role or power in here? Something's wrong, indeed.
6. Crowley is being held captive by Dagon
I don't know if it was really visible to everyone on the original social media posting but if you brighten the heck out of the image you can see that Crowley's got his hands tied behind his back here. I'm guessing Dagon is the one in charge now that Beelzebub is gone?
7. The lighting of this scene with the new Toby Jones character is a perfect match for the 1941 part 2 flashback.
I dunno man. Weird. They used the same lens and everything.
8. There are rainbow flares happening in this dystopian Whickber street
Just like in season 2, this particular establishing shot gets a rainbow flare. No other shots so far have gotten that treatment, so I find it interesting that only the dystopian Whickber street now fits with the Season 2 visual style.
9. One scene has been partially flipped
These are four shots in the same scene, but can you spot what's wrong? They've mirrored one shot each of Azirphale and Crowley. Either to throw us off the scent of something, or maybe a red herring about having no tattoo in this scene? Needless to say, that is a BIZARRE choice.
10. The Battle is their final performance & The Bentley isn't the Bentley (again)
In the closeup interior of the Bentley we can just make out the new double poster next to the Bookshop in the dystopian Whickber street. No longer the obscure comic book panels, it seems to be a funny take on a ballet poster maybe? : BATTLE. FINAL PERFORMANCE.
In any case, we've got a new Bentley... again. The huge contention around season 2's multiple Bentley looks has raged on, and now we get more fuel for the fire. Check out this great frontal angle of this Season 3 Bentley. It's got side mirrors attached to the doors, and four door construction, not to mention new bumper light covers. Strangely, it seems to be a perfect match for this promo Bentley that was parked for the set photos...
11. New and old stores on Dystopian Whickber street.
The speeding Bentley lets us dissect the new stores on dystopian Whickber street. We've got "Coffee...", so it looks like *Death* is missing from this world? Death is no longer an option? Next to it we've get Golden Gods with the neon windows, and Beyond Soho which seemed to be a real estate office in some leaked concept art. Interestingly, in the Season 3 poster, Beyond soho is hidden on the left side, and the record shop is hidden in the far right. Could the poster actually be a version of whickber street cleaved in two?
12. We've got a book on the stand problem
Oddly similar to the Bentley version problem, we now have a problem with Aziraphale’s desk. See here for the full breakdown from season 2, but long story short, there was a strange inconsistency with the set photos from season 2 and the actual show. The Harold Copping bible in the set tour was missing, and two copies of the periodical L’art pour tous in its place. Which never matched with the show, where there was only ever one copy on the stand the few times the Copping Bible was missing. What are they cooking up over there…?
13. A planet of black widow-ish spiders?
With the brief glances we get at the intro sequence we can’t tell much, but we do have a planet full of spiders that look like black widows with the famous hourglass shape, except in white instead of red. False widows perhaps? Spiders spinning time our duo go and visit? The last spider we saw in good omens was a horror. I’d like to not revisit it.
14. This conversation takes place at Justine's in season 2?
While I’ve seen some speculation floating around that this HEARTWRENCHING face is being performed by Crowley in the bookshop, I have another view. I think this scene takes place inside a part of season 2 we didn’t see. You can see the comparison here of the background of the front of Justine’s restaurant in season 2 and the scene in question. The awning and fairy lights are almost identical, as is the sun, just from a different angle. The hair and makeup are also very similar. I’d bet money this is happening on the street in the open or on Justine’s front terrasse at some point we’ve already seen.
15. We might get another 1941 flashback, and there's a hidden message.
Finally, we get a brief glimpse at another opening credits scene, and it’s got a ton of references to the season 2 opening credits scene that itself references the 1941 flashback: the bus with Wings for Victory on it, the bomber plane launching an explosive, and in the very top left we can spot a war balloon. We also have some very small text on the light blue building on the right. It’s a mirrored “2.0-A”. If anyone has any ideas what that means other than version of realities, let me know.
The fun continues! Part 2 can be found here.
Thanks ever so much to the ineffable detective agency friends for the sounding board @ineffable-detective-agency and @embracing-the-ineffable for the high resolution photos yall are literally the best.

The Good Omens Prime account posted a new poster today, and Peter Anderson Studio decided to give us a ring.
Of course we had to answer the call... Would be rude not to.
Translation and explanation for the poster is below the cut.
So first off for those that are curious, this is nowhere near the Angelic trial script found in season 2. On closer inspection, the symbols seemed to be some sort of repeating flourish font. So we had to find the font.
I spent 3 whole US dollars on this terrible decorative filigree.
Now all that's left is to type out every single letter by hand one by one, and presto change-o
So what mysteeeeeerious secrets have we revealed?
"dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit..."
If that quote looks familiar to you, you're probably a graphic designer. This text is a mixture of standard placeholder Latin, corrupted fragments, and keyboard-mashing, a literal translation is impossible. However, we can translate the source phrases from which these rings were built.
In professional typesetting, Lorem Ipsum text is meant to simulate the "look" of a document without the "distraction" of meaning. If we translate the intended meaning of the recognizable Latin roots, the inscription reads like a fragmented philosophical treatise on pain and duty.
Most of these rings are derived from the same sentence:
"Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit…"
"There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain…"
Ring 1 (outside)
elit sed do adipiscin do eius modg elit exe adipiscing elit adipiscing elit rcit- tion ind of orem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing
Ring 2
orem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing elit sed do eiusmod ugimt sit vo(vd)luptatem nda dbc iueq sunt in culpa qui dolor incia
These rings focus on dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod.
"…pursuing excellence, but also through the work and pain of the moment. [Corrupted gibberish: dugimt, dbc] …they are in fault who [fail in their] duty through a weakness of mind."
Ring 3
ipsum mnnv dnmvn dfgnkda iem io sum dolor sit amet consecti dolor ea mc vemo cillu volu m dolor eenia i voluus m “Heart broken World Broken What’s the point of anything?” di
This ring contains the most corruption
Recognizable Roots: veniam, illum, voluptas.
"…[Gibberish]… pain itself… [Gibberish]… that piece of pleasure… [Gibberish]… Heart broken World Broken What’s the point of anything?"
Ring 4
Amet consectetur adipiscing elit sed do eius ____lee dolor in reprmin i fmm ve n iekjd eo ore voluptate sum dolor sit
Ring 5
adipiscing elit sed do eiusmod tempor cu quip ex ea comms ltmn jrew t r t e f nb ai nima veniam esi ea commor
These rings use fragments of the section discussing "the effort required to achieve results."
reprehenderit, voluptate, eiusmod tempor, ex ea commodo.
"…to find fault in [reprehenderit] pleasure… [Gibberish]… through the effort of work… [Gibberish]… unless they result in some convenience or advantage."
Ring 6
corporis suscipit laeorios am ev a dkd wr scing elit sed mque laudante totam rem aper iam ullam
This ring pulls from the "laborious" section of the text.
corporis suscipit laboriosam, laudantium, rem aperiam, ullam.
"…undertakes laborious physical exercise… [Gibberish]… praising… I will open the whole matter… [Gibberish]… no one."
Ring 7 (left side) Ring 7 (right side)

Ring 8 (left side) Ring 8 (right side)

Ring 9 (left side) Ring 9 (right side)

These outer/inner fragments are repetitions of the same opening phrases.
"Pain itself… consectetur… eiusmod… their own pain."
Conclusion:
Peter Anderson studios are giant trolls and deserve
to be put in a corner to think about what they’ve done.
On behalf of everyone in the @ineffable-detective-agency who worked on this rush job:
