Doughael's cause was started in the Rift when They saw spirits making up the Avatar, spirits searching for an answer to how all Cookies were made. Because of this, I do not think Doughael knew They were going to be eaten: In Their words, They thought that all of them would simply become stronger, complete, transformed into ‘pristine dough’/ingredients now pure enough to be guided to behold gods. That leads me to believe all of those souls must still be alive in some fashion, in order for Doughael to make that conclusion. And, seeing how Doughael came back as an angel (either a whole angel or partly), They’re canonically part of those spirits in some manner. This fact (and the fact how the Avatar is seemingly made up out of still-aware Cookie souls) makes me believe that Doughael is protected. They're already (somewhat) part of the afterlife, so They've already "joined the spirits enough," so to speak. It's the combination of Their mortality (knowing how others will feel if They're gone/having enough thought left to not simply give in and join the Avatar after They were eaten) and immortality (having that angelic body that's unable to be digested because it's spirit - the souls still cling to the Avatar, after all) that make Them survive.

So, Doughael somehow makes it out of the Avatar. This could be done in a multitude of different ways - one could be that since They survived seeing the Avatar in the Rift in the first place (which was something the other members of the order were shocked by, since no one ever had before), They had it in Them to survive another harrowing experience. Another option is that They return as a pure spirit, much like Onion Cookie. In any case, They realize that They were wrong about the Whole Dough. and that Cookies can choose their own fate. They realize that, as Themselves, They were already whole enough. Then Doughael joins the outside world with Their powers of (given Their traumatic past) being a healer! Oh and They still look the same because:

- 1) They did indeed have a spiritual experience (twice) and don't undo that, viewing it also as a blessing from the Cookies gone before Them. I don’t see Doughael as a false angel per se, as the witches really are the Cookies’ creators. Gods are just twisted beings here. Technically, Doughael is a true angel, but gods aren't good in this world. Now, Doughael has the opportunity to express Their angelic self the way They see fit, much like how Pure Vanilla Cookie symbolizes goodness. 

- 2) I just really love Their design :P What can I say 

Speaking of Pure Vanilla, I do like the idea of Doughael looking up to him or simply taking a particular liking to him. Pure Vanilla could be the type of teaching, loving godlike figure that Doughael thought They would find in the Witches. Doughael can learn how to heal more from him. I also think They would feel guilty about what They had done and the Cookies that died, as Doughael only had good intentions. They were doing what They thought was the right thing. Because of those regrets, I feel like They would become good friends with White Lily as well.
