I'm not sure if your active on here. But I've been poking around a couple of places with folks with did, and osdd. I can't tell the difference between places with real folks with the disorder, and folks roleplaying. I'm on one discord and I'm seeing a member face claim and all there did alters are YouTubers. I don't get it. I feel like some people are roleplaying?
That's something that the community talks about a lot.
It can help alters express themselves by finding a picture close to what they look like, using a doll maker to make themselves, etc. And yeah, alters can be introjects of real people. But for everyone in a system to be an introject of a celebrity is a huge red flag.Â
Especially with the increased popularity of DID youtubers, this has become more common. People have been emulating their behavior and trying to present themselves like they do. There's also still a lot of misinformation in the community, and it makes it worse.
Are some of these people roleplaying? Probably, especially the very young ones. They're most likely mistaking their ego states for alters. But some of these people probably aren't, and are just trying to be a part of the community by doing things everyone else is doing.
Use your own discrection. Look for red flags. @this-is-not-dissociative is a good resource for reading up on that. But I understand how you feel. Seeing a big part of the DID community look like it's a roleplaying group instead of a support network for mental health is very :/
