I listened to Spill.com, before it became Double Toasted, when I was a kid (and that was probably not good for me in hindsight) and those guys are way too misogynistic to give a fair assessment of the film. Doug Walker maligns how Bear is ‘too stupid’ for much of the film to realize what’s happening but it’s not that at all — Bear is aware in the very beginning that the wish is the explanation for Nikki’s sudden changed behavior but he enjoys how she’s all about him and leans very hard on the absurdity of magic being real to justify letting things play out. I wouldn’t even watch Jeremy Jahns review of it after he literally said he’d prefer to have a son if he had a child because he “wants his kid to be awesome”. Never liked that guy since.

Even James A. Janisse from Kill Count responds to Chelsea Rebecca, his wife and co-host, trying to bring up how the film has affected women viscerally with “well I think for men too. It goes both ways” in their podcast recap.
