I saw someone saying that cloth pads should be provided as free menstrual products instead of traditional pads and I genuinely was so frustrated... Like just I can’t imagine being so divorced from the lived realities of the people who struggle most with lack of adequate menstrual products. What, you think homeless people have easy access to the level of hygiene and cleaning that you need to use cloth pads? Do you know how hard it is sometimes just to be able to wash your hands regularly enough when your homeless? But you expect homeless people to have somewhere to store used cloth pads, be able to wash them, have somewhere to put them while they dry, have at least one to use while the other is washed and dried? Consistently?
Being homeless while on your period is a nightmare. It’s horrible! And just seeing people who’ve clearly never had to think through what all that entails be like ‘the homeless should bear the brunt of eco consciousness on top of everything else’ is just so fucking cruel
Can we not offer both pads? I'd prefer people who are able to use cloth pads because they're better for the environment - but also still have the standard pad as an option.

Literally this person was saying instead of and no, frankly, it’s not a great idea to offer both because menstrual products always run out, and these people won’t be choosing to use them because they’re more eco friendly but because they have no choice, and it’s very likely they’ll be thrown away when there’s no way to keep them clean, making them a horrible use of resources.
There’s a reason you don’t have homeless shelters requesting them. Y’all just have an ego problem that leads y’all to think that you understand situations you’ve never had to struggle with better than the people who have lived them.
