"Then on the bus to the station, Paul discovered he hadnât enough money left to buy his train ticket. The three were on the smokersâ upper deck and a male passenger who was just getting off heard his lamentations and wordlessly pressed a two-shilling (10p) coin into his hand. Paul pursued this unknown benefactor to the top of the stairs and shouted down after him âI love you!â (Paul MCartney: The Life, by Philip Norman)
âPaul said heâs going to do the Hall of Fame speech. I really think Iâm doing it just to give Paul a night out. He likes to keep busy.â
â Ringo Starr, on being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Rolling Stone, April 15th, 2015
âI donât know [why weâre reviving it now]. Paul mustâve had a slow day. He says, âYou know that track we did? Do you want to work on that?ââ
â Ringo Starr, on the âfinalâ Beatles track, Variety, July 7th, 2023
Same energy:
"Dad was almost too enthusiastic when it came to helping with homework. On my own I could knock it off in half an hour but Dad would get out the encyclopaedia, he'd be cross-referencing and drawing graphs."
Mary McCartney on her childhood, The Times, 26 December 2021 (behind a paywall, sorry).

Silly Love Songs & musical unpredictability
Some interesting graphs (source here) based on this:
The study, published on Thursday in the journal Scientific Reports, used mathematical models and algorithms to pinpoint three âmelodic revolutionsâ â in 1975, 1996 and 2000 â that brought increasing simplicity to the two main components of melody: rhythm, or the pattern of sounds and silences in a piece of music, and pitch, the measure of how high or low the notes are.
The study looked at the top five Billboard songs every year from 1950 to 2023. Both rhythm and pitch became steadily less complex over that period, the study found. âConservatively, they have both decreased by 30 percent,â said Madeline Hamilton, a graduate student at Queen Mary University who led the research.
I went ahead and circled where Silly Love Songs showed up because it's so far above the rest it's hard to notice otherwise...!
New article: Coming Up Like a Flower: How Paul McCartney Finds Liberation Through Gender
In the new documentary Man on the Run, Paul McCartney goes on a quest of self-discovery in the wake of the breakup of the Beatles. He was one of the most famous men in the world, but in 1970, his identity was wrapped up in that of three other men, and in the Lennon-McCartney partnership in particular. As we watch him throughout the 70âs, we see him find his voice again as he goes from depressed farmer to glam rocker, and a pattern emerges that can be mapped onto his entire lifeâheâs strikingly masculine in his lowest moments, and wildly femme at his peaks. Paulâs gender expression, it seems, reflects his emotional state, with masculinity acting as a comforting cage of conformity and femininity representing ultimate creative and personal freedom.
In today's article, @the-boney-rolls examines Paul's gender expression through Man on the Run and beyond. Read more on the WYCOTP substack!

JOHN: You knowâŚÂ Paul forgot to sing!
PAUL: God Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, god Iâm sorry. I was just watching George and I thought, âIt must be alright.â Â

Something about the pattern of Paul's lyrics being vulnerable when he doesn't have to sing them himself and he can hide behind the voices of others.
(Or he just doesn't release them at all)
They said that love was a lie Told me that I Should never try to find Somebody who'd be kind Kind to only me So, I just tell them they're right Who wants a fight? Tell them I quite agree Nobody'd love me
Itâs for you (1964) sung by Cilla Black
How can I understand, When someone says to me, "I don't want to see you again."? Why do I cry at night? Something wrong could be right.
I Donât Want to See You Again (1964) sung by Peter and Gordon
"John was a f***er. Paul was always the nicest guy in the world ... But John was a bit poky; I liked him. I told John to close his eyes because I could feel this tension between him and Paul."
David Bailey to British GQ, 2014
