im going to fix my entire life
When?
Like Um. later
The ex-Beatle rushed to help pull an unconscious 14-month-old girl from the mangled wreck of her pram, which had been slammed by a speeding car.
He then comforted the girls dying Japanese nanny for half an hour until the ambulance arrived.
A spokesman for the shocked McCartney said, βHe doesnβt want to talk about the tragedy.β
It is real as far as I can tell. Denny Laine went on record about the event to Geoffrey Giuliano-
βIt occurred in October of 1980 in the tiny village of Tenterden, in Kent. Wings had been rehearsing in a manor house rented from prominent London publisher Martin Miller when they heard the terrible sounds of a car crash outside the main gates.
Laine recalls: βApparently, this young Japanese au pair girl who worked for the Millers was taking their infant daughter, Cara, for a walk in her pram when this supposedly drunken driver tried to overtake another car and knocked them both down. The baby flew up into the air and landed unhurt by a hedgerow, but the poor au pair was very badly injured.β
βI was actually the first to reach her, but Paul dove right in and started nursing her, trying to do what he could.β
βPaul was just saying things like, βItβll be alright, luv, donβt worry,β but we were getting no response. At one point he glanced over at me and slowly shook his head. He knew. We both knew. Still, he just sat there stroking her long black hair, talking and sometimes even singing softly as she lay there dying.β
Apparently out of respect for the victim of the crash and family Paul had his team enforce a tight media ban on his involvement.
Much more detail here! (Warning for graphic descriptions of injury and death) I generally take Giuliano with a grain of salt but it appears to be corroborated in several places, this clipping and a blog post from an acquaintance of the childβs family.
@talking-perfectly-loud according to the link above it happened in October of 1980, so Paul would have been 38. Must be a typo.
Denny Laine talks about this incident in The Sun in 1984. He frames it in terms of Paul not being good with death in general (he describes how Paul didnβt attend either his fatherβs funeral or John Bonhamβs) but says Paul is good in a crisis. Iβve put it below a cut because some of the details are a little graphic.

"Throw the Wine"
Dear Friend/Throw The Wine/I'm In Love with A Friend of Mine
This phrase from "Dear Friend" is intriguing for a number of reasons, but one of them is: what is going on with this wine? Is this an oinomancy, the practice of fortune telling through wine spill patterns, sediments, etc?
Is "I'm in Love with a Friend of Mine" Paul's prophesy, the truth revealed from this reading?
"Melted tin beads cast your fortune /In a glass of wine" he writes in the title track for the film Vanilla Sky (2001).
Food Drink for Thought....
Demons and monsters that torture people because they feed on human suffering are so dumb. People are suffering everywhere my guy go literally any place and take a deep whiff.
Monster that feeds on suffering becomes a professional caretaker for people with chronic pain and terminal illnesses. They can't change the fact that these people are suffering, but they help a bit and in the meantime they're fat and happy off that Sweet Sweet ambient pain in the air.
Two towns over there's a demon lord trying to get their cult to abduct people for torture, but they keep getting stopped by heroes and the like, so they're barely scraping by. Meanwhile Belogarth the Registered PCA is chowing down on back pain, medication side effects and looming mortality for eight hours a day and has become the most powerful demon on earth without realizing it.
"But don't their clients feel weird knowing that they're feeding off their suffering?" No they think it's hilarious and they're real shits about it.
Finally a medical professional who believes that they are in pain. Because the fucker is actively chowing down on your agony. Not only am I going to get treated by them I'm going to invite all of my chronically ill friends to come as well.
Turns out if you treat the pain then the humans will bring you more humans who are suffering. It's like a restaurant where the waiter is so impressed by your ability to eat food they're giving you more on the house
They say things like "well, it's a real feast day for Belogarth today!" and "if my meds are held up at customs again I'm gonna put Belogarth in a food coma" and Belogarth is the one feeling weird about it
The Demon King dies and by tradition, the strongest demon is to take his place. All the big bad demon lords go to the demon seer or whatever (I dunno) to determine the strongest and are surprised that it's some rando they've never heard about whose kingdom isn't on any map and seems to consist of a single assisted living facility. They go to crown him the Demon King and are directed to a tired-looking man counting out pills and pouring juice who just looks at them and says, "we are WAY too understaffed for me to take on out-of-work hobbies right now."
The demon council looks at each other. They expected to be out of here in secondsβwho wouldnβt want to be the Demon King, in a culture where being feared is the surest way to not be tortured yourself?
The pause gives them time to notice the ambient misery in the air. They look around some more, and a waiting room full of patients and a notable lack of heroes and battle damage.
ββ¦ Understaffed?β one ventures.
By the end of the week, Belogarth has a choice of a crowd of potential apprentices who are competing for the chance to offer their services.

Q: Youβre not a dictator in the public eye, but βPaul, the nice guyβ all the time. Even John called you βhonest little Paulieβ and βthe walking, glossy PR guy.β How do you feel about that?
McCartney: I never realized I was reflecting that image. As a kid, I watched the telly to see how they did it, and watched films to see how the world went. You pick up on all these things. If they smoked in the films, then you smoked. You just see what was the cool thing to be. To me, that PR thing I just automatically thought we needed in the Beatles, to get on and to meet people and the Press. So, I would do a lot of that because no else would. Itβs the truth. John would never do it and George wasnβt into it and Ringo would if he liked you, but Iβd do it even if I didnβt like you.Β All the Press people weβd see I would bring in and say, βCome on!β
I knew they were nervous. I donβt like nervous people around. Who does? I mean, nervous people hate to be nervous but itβs something they canβt help. So I try and cool the situation out and say, βLetβs have a cup of tea, OK? Come on now, sit down.β
A lot of Liverpool people are very good at that. Maybe itβs not always genuine, but my Auntie Jenna always called me polished. She said, βYou are really polished, you are,β but in a way she kind of liked it.
Over years and particularly with John coming out against me like that, it was no good for me at all. He really slagged me off, a lot of which he really didnβt mean. He said it in interviews, and Iβve talked a lot to Yoko since, and she tells me that lots of it was just John. A lot of it was his ownβ¦he just wanted to put me down.Β He said, βEveryone is on the McCartney bandwagon.β You know,Β you get jealous.
Q: But he was laughing as well when he was doing it, even when he said, βThe only thing you done was Yesterday.β He said in interviews that he was shitting himself with laughter doing it.
McCartney: Thatβs right. (laughs) Itβs all jokes, taking the piss out of me. That was John. Thatβs his particular thing and thatβs what I liked him for. But I think it has probably made my image worse than it is. As I say, the truth is he didnβt really think that was all my character. He knew there were all sorts of other bits. But I think itβs true. I sometimes do catch myself and think, βGod do I look like that?β Or, βIs that how I come over people.β
And the funny thing is, Iβm just struggling, trying to get through life okay, and trying to do well, like lots of other people I know. I just try to earn a living. Basically, Iβve never had a different philosophy than that. You get up in the morning and do your gig.
-Interview for Music Express β’ April/May 1982
"I never get into that βdark periodβ stuff. People interpret them. That one is a bit darker than that. Itβs obvious. I canβt remember many paintings where I am in a dark mood, but maybe that comes though. Itβs like a psychiatristβs couch. It all comes out in the wash. I donβt analyse too much. Iβd like to be able to. John and I spent many a pleasant afternoon wandering around Walker Art Gallery when we were young, so going back to the βPool with my paintings will complete some kind of circle for me and Iβm really excited about it [...] I think if I had said to John, βIβm going to have an exhibition here one of these days,β I think I know what he would have saidβ¦ Iβll leave it to your imagination." lost?
βAlthough John was the only Beatle who went to art college, this shows how good Paul was. Heβs sitting in front of a very strong, honest self-portrait. Next to him is a huge collage he painted. Indeed, he still paints today (on Magritteβs old easel!).β - Mike McCartney
