Advice Requested❤️
So I have some friends who, despite me having a diagnosis don’t believe that I have Tourette Syndrome. If that was you, would you consider that a dealbreaker for a friendship? I’ve known this one friend for a really long time, and I’d almost consider her one of my best friends. But throughout the past few years I’ve kept my Tourette’s pretty hidden but now it’s harder to hide. She just rolls her eyes and asks me to stop faking. I’m really close with her, and I don’t want to lose her, but there’s nothing I can do to make her believe me. What would you guys do in my scenario?
good parents dont hit their children. good parents dont touch their children inappropriately. good parents dont scream at their children. good parents dont manipulate their children. good parents dont imprison their children at home. good parents dont threaten their children. good parents dont starve their children. good parents dont harass their children.
good parents do not abuse their children.
in case you don’t know weather to reblog this:
This makes me realize several uncomfortable things about my childhood.
Wait the screaming thing isn’t a normal thing?
Apparently not
Omg my poor babies, as a CHAD major let me lay it out for you.
Occasional “im human and im frustrated” yelling happens. Those are usually followed by apologies and genuine effort not to do that again.
But if your parent/guardian is always SCREAMING at you, especially as a way to control or make you feel inferior (insults, threats, things they know make you subdue and guilty) THIS IS EMOTIONAL ABUSE. if they are purposely contorting your emotions as a method to control that is abuse.
If someone hits, kicks, slaps, or beats you (not just a gentle nonsexual spank on the butt) THIS IS PHYSICAL ABUSE, ESPECIALLY IF IT LEAVES A BRUISE, CUT ABRAISION, ETC.
If adults are making you dance in a manner to be sexual, do sexual things, or watch sexual things inappropriate for your age THIS IS SEXUAL ABUSE. it is not always touching your/someone else’s private areas (which is ALSO abuse.)
If your parent or guardian is depriving you of things that are essential for life (food, water, shelter, weather appropriate clothes, hygiene, medical) and it is not just a “we are literally too broke to get these things but im really trying ” THIS IS NEGLECT AND IS ABUSE.
Talk to a teacher or trusted adult. Anyone in a human service setting (educators, administration, health, etc) especially those in a child/ adolescent arena are MANDATED REPORTERS: they MUST tell CPS there is a problem. If you are in immediate danger be explicit: they will call 911 to keep you safe.
This is SO fucking important please be safe my peeps.
wait so it isn’t normal for my mum to not take me to my doctor’s appointments as a punishment? huh.
Please be safe fam

oh no what’s this force on my reblog buttoonnn
I’d just like to take a second and be thankful for the friends I have, they deal with the bullshit that is my Tourette syndrome and seizures all the time and they don’t get mad at all. All the times I’ve hit them, said shit stuff to them, or ruined plans because I had a seizure, they never got mad at me. Not once. People like this are really hard to come by, and I’m very grateful for them. If y’all are struggling and don’t have friends like these, I’ll be your friend❤️

It's common for tics to involve intense muscular activity, right? Does it make you stronk? :o
Actually in some cases yes! I have one very strong bicep while the other looks like a lil noodle since I have a tic that involves aggressively contracting that muscle on one arm😅 so yeah, Tourette Syndrome is basically a free workout
u really do gotta laugh at tourettes mishaps sometimes like i mean it’s good to laugh at myself when my tourettes brain pulls some shit like i start ticcing while holding a hot drink and spill it on myself, tic mishaps can be funny if you let them be

Okay, so this has been a long time coming.
I’ve noticed people have begun to headcanon Remus as having Tourettes Syndrome as a way to explain his outbursts and cursing, and like, I know representation matters, but the way people are doing it is harmful to actual people with Tourettes.
Tourettes isn’t just people who say inappropriate things. Tourettes is scrunching up your face, or blinking rapidly, or shaking your hands, or scuffing your feet against the floor, or jerky arm movements, or small squeaks, or clearing your throat, or humming.
Tourettes isn’t just a convenient headcanon for a character who’s inappropriate, and treating it as such is not only extremely upsetting for people with Tourettes, but it also spreads the idea that Tourettes is a bad thing.
Tourettes is more than blurting curses or being nasty. Tourettes is people crying because their ticks take everything out of them, but they still can’t stop, because it’s involuntary, and they have to ride it out until their muscles are so sore that they burn and ache the next day.
Tourettes is also people getting anxious for a test and clicking their tongue, and having to be escorted from the room for a private place where they won’t disrupt their classmates.
Tourettes is parents heading into the earliest opportunity to meet a teacher, and sitting the teacher down to explain their kids ticks and explaining what times they need to take their medicine and the proper way to calm their child during an episode so they don’t work themselves up badly.
Tourettes is doctors keeping in mind that their patients are more likely to have things like anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder.
Tourettes is people who hit 20 and their ticks are gone, while others are 50 and still experience them.
Tourettes is getting asked, “Omg, is that why you curse?” and having to explain that no, your cursing is a choice, much like it is with most people.
Tourettes is not telling your classmates because they start referencing Family Guy and other media that makes fun of people with Tourettes.
Tourettes is also finding out your friend bought you a gift and spending the day squeaking and slapping any flat surface as fast as you can from excitement.
Tourettes is parents knowing when their kids are getting sick, because their ticks increase, and they know to take them to the doctor to get checked out so whatever sickness is going on can be treated.
Tourettes isn’t the ugly thing some of y’all twist it to be, and some people are uncomfortable when they see someone ticking in public, only to assign this headcanon to characters who fit negative stereotypes and say, “I’m so inclusive!”
Stop. If you’re going to headcanon a character with Tourettes, do it correctly, or don’t do it at all.
This. Is. So. Important.
I just found a video of me ticcing on a public Snapchat story. I’m guessing it’s from someone who lives in my town. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp? Like, don’t film me. Please. But I mean, I was ticcing about the infamous @thneedle-thoup onceler cosplay. That’s free advertising, so who’s the real winner here? ✌🏼

If one more person says that they wished they had Tourette Syndrome I’m gonna shit. Like yes, some of the things I say (most of them) are funny as hell and I make it a major meme but honestly it’s not so fun.
Tic attacks? They suck. I pass out almost every time I have one.
Reading? Couldn’t do that until I was 12 because every time I tried to read I’d tic my eyes shut and throw the book across the room.
Driving? I can’t ever do that. (Also bc seizures)
Just the frustration of it all. Y’all this is not a disease you want to have.
Y’all I really want to see more Tourette visibility in tv shows and movies. Like, I can count on one hand the amount of films that I’ve seen with Tourette’s in it. Someone please make a movie that shows us accurately. Thanks ❤️
I have a new tic again😅
Every time someone walks by me outside I just straight up say “two meters, back the hell up please!” And honestly, this tic is stressful but probably keeping me safe lmao.
I love it when I have a positive Tourette experience. I don’t see enough of these on here so I’m going to share, although it’s pretty small❤️
I was at the grocery store, and I was waiting for a mother and teenage boy to move so I could grab what I had came for. I started ticcing “hey can you just fkin move already” and “2 meters you morons”. And I looked up at them and I apologized and proceeded to tell them I have Tourette Syndrome. The teenage boy just looked at me and said “hey that’s okay, my best friend has Tourette Syndrome, don’t worry about it” and the mom said “honey it’s okay, I would hug you if I could”. This was just an all around positive experience and it made my day😊
Do y’all tell people that you have Tourette syndrome when you meet them, or do you just keep it to yourself and let them figure it out? I wonder if it would be easier to just say “Hi, nice to meet you, I have Tourette Syndrome by the way so don’t be offended if I say something rude” or whatever lol instead of them just being like 👁 👄 👁 when I tic
