The Social Commentary™ about cops would work better if it wasn’t factually wrong.

In the event in question, some kid was literally sitting in public with a realistic pellet gun, and pointing it at people.

Somehow, that got turned into a “playing with a toy gun” when people wanted to get angry. I once argued with someone who insisted it was a “toy gun” even after I corrected her. It’s literally illegal to make toy guns without an orange tip or fully brightly colored.

And this comic’s writer turned it into a “squirt gun”.

Also, the cop who shot the actual kid got fired. He was charged, tried and acquitted. He couldn’t even get hired in a small town in another state before the public outcry lost him the job. The Justice Department investigated.

The system didn’t just call for more training.

I’ve yet to see a single person explain how a cop was supposed to tell the difference between the realistic pellet gun on the top and the real one on the bottom. The best they could do is “well, the 911 caller said it might be a toy gun!”

Edit: But on the topic of Nazi Germany, Nazis only gained power because they portrayed the Jews as oppressors who were to blame for all of their problems and undeserving were of sympathy. Another thing the "punch a nazi" crowd is known for doing to groups for how they were born.

Also, both the Nazis and the Italian fascists dressed up in colored shirts and physically attacked political enemies. And German’s antifa tried to do the same, and it didn’t work.

So, OP, are you endorsing killing anyone who’s a Nazi?

Because if you’re likening yourself to soldiers who fought a war, that’s what it’s gonna take.

The nazis and the german antifa were just fighting over which brand of fascism they wanted, oddly enough antifa won and a a prize they got the eastern bloc full of soviet puppet states and secret police that drag you off to god knows where in the middle of the night because your kid turned you in to the stasi in exchange for a new pair of shoes. But it totally wasn't fascism because fascism is what other people do not them. Their secret police and state sanctioned executions were totally different since they were Democratic in East Germany, even says so in their official name of the Democratic German Republic. Which is also how you know it wasn't real communism™.

Yes, you are reading "don't attack people you label as Nazis, especially because that word now applies to anyone someone doesn't like" correctly. I'm not sure how you got "ignore physical violence committed against others" from "don't commit physical violence over speech" though.

I've been called a Nazi for saying things such as "discrimination is wrong". @siryouarebeingmocked has been called a Nazi for similar reasons. In the modern world where every side calls every other side a Nazi, if you don't see the potential for how bad "we should attack everyone we label as a Nazi" is then you're being wilfully blind.

To actually answer the dimwit: because then the discussion quickly turns to the ideas about entitlement to the labour of others. There can be a discussion that it would be unethical to sell bread while people starve, but then you also need to ask the question as to whether that changes anything about the ethicality of theft.

Or in other words, it all goes back to “does two wrongs make a right”, which is pretty funny because most people figured this shit out as a toddler (hint: the answer is no, two wrongs do not in fact make a right).

if someone has food, and your family does not, rendering theft the only way you and your family can eat, then theft is not wrong, but necessary

Ya’ll really like to portray the bread seller as the victim and the person relegated to theft for the sake of survival as a big bad meanie (and sometimes fucking slaver for some fucking reason).

To justify your worldview, you take a common, distressing reality of someone being at their last straw and needing to eat so badly that the law is thrown to the wayside, and portray that person as doing this for the sake of sadism or greed.

I wonder if this imaginary hoodlum of yours who takes bread cause they’re greedy is wearing a black and white striped shirt and a mask and carrying a revolver. Maybe says “nyeh, gimme the dough!” while they steal the bread.

And meanwhile, you want to portray the guy who sells the bread as a big evil villain akin to a saturday morning cartoon who lives in a mansion made out of bread and laughs as he watches orphans die while he marinates his bread in kitten blood, so…

The guy who’s selling the bread is a regional manager for Walmart who’s paycheck wouldn’t see a dent if someone stole a loaf of bread.

The guy that owns the franchise itself is off on vacation, reaping the rewards of the automatic machine they’ve built, and could not care less what actually happens.

And the bread being stolen? That’s going to sit there and then be thrown into a dumpster for a tax write off. Again, without a single note from either the guy selling the bread or the one that actually owns the store.

The locked vault with the food automatically locks at 9pm and opens again at 4am so folks can come in and labor for the right to have some of the food in the vault.

The reality is apathy. But you don’t want to know that.

A: regional managers lose their job if the store costs more money than it takes in. If the store exclusively runs at a deficit it will close, because they don’t have the means of sustaining themselves. This is true of chain franchises and small local businesses one and the same - if there is no sustainability, it will collapse. Congratulations, you have now expanded the group of impoverished and eliminated the source of bread.

B: foodstuffs is by no means the most stolen good.

C: the “machine” isn’t automatic.

D: that food that gets thrown out could cause illness. It’s not thrown out simply because it wasn’t sold, and whatever write-off might be received does not negate the loss of resources.

D: the “vault” is a place for keeping goods safe, so they might be distributed later. The people who come there to “earn the right” are exchanging their time for goods they would not have the capability to make on their own, due to resource constraints, knowledge, tool availability, or any combination thereof.

It’s sick they fail to recognize the incongruence of their own stance. If nobody but the worker is entitled to the fruits of their labor, how do they justify taking the fruits from someone else ever? Is it because they simply believe the person with the fruits just happen to steal it first? Where’s the proof of this?

I get the impression that she’s projecting her own approach to debate and morality.

I’m beginning to believe that all socialist thought springs from the ego trying to pacify the id. They want bread but, they need to justify taking it so, they moralize their own avarice by exploiting the poor. You never hear of roving bands of socialists stealing bread to give to the poor. Their practical philosophy on theft is much like that of what they accuse “conservatives” of doing but, instead of “go get a job”, it’s “go steal it yourself”. The first encourages people to act morally, respecting the rights of others while respecting oneself. The second encourages the “entitlement” characteristics in people; devoid of morality or respect for oneself, or those around them.

Socialists never get enough of the things they want; property, money, possessions… they always want more. They are perfectly willing to dole out shares of other people’s belongings, as long as they get a little bit too, on top of what they already have. Like children, told to share a candy bar they’ve been given, you can bet the socialist will always angle for the larger piece.

I feel like it’s childish thinking. “I want = I should have”, and everything on top of that is just marzipan.

It certainly is. My daughter wanted this stupid little cheap plastic doll and tried to shove it in her pocket to steal it but found out real quick neither her mother or I will play that game, she was marched back in the store and made to return it. What’s she not done since? Steal.

Yet we have grown ass adults who cannot figure out that just because they have the audacity to breathe doesn’t mean they have a right to other people’s property. If you can’t afford the bread or something else then that’s a you problem, folks. Go figure your shit out and stop playing the victim.

People on tumblr dot com having these hypothetical arguments always makes me laugh bc chances are the “charging money for food when people are hungry is wrong!” people live in a country that has a capitalist economy yet also has the very socialist concept of a wide range of social services that are there to ensure people do not become so hungry and desperate the resort to stealing. Like CVS isn’t locking up bread bruh, lol, they’re locking up the expensive shit like plan B, deodorant, oh and I saw one one on the upper east side in nyc, I think, locked up the ICE CREAM, which is also not smth you’re going to steal if you’re so hungry you’re driven to crime.

Like maybe get off tumblr dot com and do something to affect real change in very poor, very politically corrupt countries, where people truly are driven to stealing basic necessities (or making the awful decision to sell their bodies to get money for those necessities)
