Trump has contradicted every conceivable value you could have, save greed and self intrest.

If you follow him, you cannot hold those values in any serious capacity. "A value is only a value when you stand something to lose." (Wording might be off from the original quote and I don't know the name of the guy, spare me)

Values are the fundamental axioms of morality and how we attempt to be good and harmless people.

If you support Trump, you can NEVER be trusted by ANYBODY.

THAT'S exactly why you have nobody anymore.

They fawn over Green New Deal shills who fly private jets to waggle their fingers at the prols who just don't want to die of heat stroke in their homes.

They swoon over the economically illiterate lawyer, who lied about their "native heritage" to secure a seat at a formerly prestigious college, that wants to control the banking system.

They're inordinately proud of voting for a man whose daughter confessed took "inappropriate" showers with her.

Or laud the senator who, reportedly, paid a child and his family millions of dollars to settle their lawsuit over his sexual intimacy with that boy.

"Clean" energy can't even pay for itself without government subsidies. The damage done to the environment by all the heavy metals, synthetic fibers, and un-reclaimable resources dwarf anything the fossil fuel industry has done.

Barack Obama and his fellow democrats passed the ACA, which delivers direct payments to insurers, in exchange for requiring them to do dipshit things, like providing "the pill" to boys.

The weapons industry will do just fine without the US being engaged in endless wars... because there are plenty of nations who will continue to patronize them.

I’m no expert politicians here, but I think there’s one hell of a false dichotomy here. Of course the kid should get in some trouble, and Reddit OP had tried to go through other options - fair play. I don’t know how many other options the guy had, but the thing is -

In any normal world, fucking up - even fucking up big time and stealing $2000 - at age 17 shouldn’t cost you your future. And everything I understand of the US? It will. I don’t know if the kid was some rich wanker who thought he could get away with anything, or some poor, stupid desperate kid - but laws shouldn’t be so punitive as to ruin a life over a mistake. And, of course, the effects are going to be much worse for a kid with no money than a kid from a rich family.

If they decided to roll the dice when OP had the kid on video stealing the item, that was their stupid choice.

Along with missing the multiple cameras the kid passed by, apparently.

In fact, what if the stolen item was something vital and urgent, like medical equipment? What if someone actually got physically hurt because of the theft?
