No, treating the atomic bombing of Japan as though it weren’t a unique crime is the first step in historical revisionism, one that the popular American conception of history first took decades ago. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the only nuclear attacks in world history, and they were against civilian targets. A weapon capable of the instant destruction of tens of thousands of lives followed by decades of suffering and death for tens of thousands more survivors, was used against unarmed people under the rule of an enemy already on the edge of surrender, just to prove a point, not only to them, but to our temporary Soviet allies as well. 

This isn’t a secret to the rest of the world. In my experience, the delusion that the bombings can be hand-waved away is nearly exclusive to America. That the US decided to use the most powerful weapon ever to be utilized in the history of the planet against innocents, when a victory was already assured, and when even a detonation over unoccupied Japanese land would have terrified the Japanese government into the same unconditional surrender that we received, was a crime against humanity.
