The line between self care and self sabotage can be surprisingly thin. Are you staying in because you need to recharge or because you want to isolate yourself? Are you drinking to have fun or to numb your feelings? Are you avoiding all your responsibilities because you really need a break or because you can't bring yourself to care at all? Are you just having fun or are you trying to escape your reality? Are you eating all these snacks because they're delicious or because you can't find the energy to cook a proper meal? Are you canceling your plans because you genuinely don't want to go or because you're too anxious to show up? Is that coping mechanism you keep coming back to actually helping you or is it only making things worse? Are you not taking care of your appearance because you're tired of the beauty standards or because you can't bring yourself to even shower? It's so easy to just do what feels best in the moment and call it self care, but sometimes self care means pushing through instead of giving in. Sometimes self care is about making the healthy and responsible choice even though it's hard. Often the choice which is most appealing in the moment isn't actually the right one and it's important to keep that in mind.
