Hey all, I hate to do this but I’m travelling back to England tomorrow to see family and meet Joseph Quinn again. Unfortunately while my flight, the con etc are all paid for in advance, my finances currently are stretched far too thin and I don’t have the money for the coach to Dublin or back plus the tobacco that my uncle wants me to get him (he’ll pay me back for it but I don’t have the money in the first place and since he’s housing me for my trip, I have to at least get him some tobacco)

I know this is a huge ask but if someone would be open to sending me even just €20-50 on Revolut or something, just to help me get through to the end of August. Because this is the result of poor budgeting on my part, I will pay you back when I get paid on 31 August - even earlier if possible.

I really don’t want to cancel the trip as tickets for the flight and con are non-refundable, and I’ve spent €500 on it. It’s literally just so I can get my uncle’s tobacco (which he’ll pay me back for tomorrow evening) and for the coach fare between Wexford and Dublin (and back).

the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this

i also feel like i’m in the twilight zone looking at the discourse around ariana grande rn… the VAST majority of people i see expressing concern are doing so in a stern but respectful manner, with maybe one genuinely shitty person making fun of her sprinkled in there. i have no fucking idea how this is getting spun to be “everyone’s hating on ariana grande” by fans, unless they are being served a vastly different array of comments compared to me.

no, people are not hating on ariana grande right now. they are scared for her. anorexia is fucking deadly, and it’s pretty fucking clear that’s what she’s dealing with right now. she should not be in the public eye with this; she should be stepping back and getting the help she needs (which, thankfully, it seems like she’s going to be doing based on the news i’ve seen today).

if you genuinely think that people saying stuff like this is disrespectful hate, you need to take a deep look at yourself and reevaluate your own values. if you actually cared about this person who you seem to idolize, you would want her to be getting help right now.
