Okay, So recently, I've been checking out Tumblr and Deviant Art in search or quality example fantrolls of which to follow by example, and which not to. If you are trying to make a quality fantroll, You should definitely read this post, because it can help you in the long run.

What is a Fantroll?

A fantroll is a fan inspired original creation by you or anyone else belonging to the Homestuck fandom. If you have not read Homestuck, but are curious about creating a fantroll, Please visit Ms Paint Adventures and read the comic for yourself. DO NOT SKIP ANY ACTS. DO NOT SKIP TO ACT 5, BECAUSE THERE IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO TAKE IN AT ONCE, AND ITS BEST ADVISED ANYWAYS JUST TO READ IT AND ENJOY IT FROM THE BEGINNING LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. The fandom would greatly appreciate it, and it would make the creator of the comic, Andrew Hussie, very pleased.

      2.  What is a Troll?

Trolls are the native species of Alien which are native to a planet called Alternia. They are complex humanoid creatures with grey skin, yellow scleras, differently colored blood to show the level of peasantry, mutantry or royalty, matching iris color that the same as the blood color, humanoid ears or fish fins on the face, yellow to red colored horns on the peaks of the skull, and white (mostly sharp canine like) teeth. For a good example, here are 2 different examples of trolls:

Here we see two fine examples of canon trolls. One is a Royal blooded female seadwelling troll (note the ear fins on the sides of her face) and the other is a Lowblooded (Peasant) male troll with a handicap. Both of these canon trolls are diverse in their own ways; The female is a bubbly sweetheart, who can show a diverse range of emotions, and can even be a bit of a bitch, and the male is a confidence lacking, paralyzed troll with a canonical love for card games and larping who doesn't lack in attitude. Most trolls commonly wear black clothing with a symbol upon their shirt to represent them, which is the same color as their blood. Feferi (The female Royal blood) is an exception; possibly because it originates with her place of living, the ocean, where wearing more than one flashy color is more than accepted, as presented by actual fish:

    3. How do I make a fantroll?

Well, Thats what I'm here for! To know the basics, check the list below:

Must follow the HSV Color system (Rainbow bloods, White bloods, and black bloods ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN TROLLIAN SOCIETY)

Must start off with a basic gender (CAN BE MALE, FEMALE, AGENDER, TRANS FEMALE TO MALE, TRANS MALE TO FEMALE, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF GENDER USED IN OUR SOCIETY)

Must be no Higher a blood than Feferi (Canonically, that is a rule that applies)

*If you are making a fantroll that is of Purple blood (I.E: Gamzee, Kurloz or GHB) They do NOT have to be Subjuggulators. If you want them to, thats fine, but over 85% of purple bloods in the fandom are Subjuggulators or Subjuggulettes.

*If you are making a fantroll that is of Jade blood (I.E: Kanaya, Porrim, or Dolorosa) They  do NOT have to be Rainbow Drinkers. If you want them to, thats fine. NOTE: It is acceptable to have Rainbow Drinkers (The Troll equivalent of a Vampire) of different bloods. I have personally asked Hussie in person, and he is alright with it.

Please, for the love of everything that is holy, DO NOT STEAL CANONICAL FANTROLL HORNS OR SYMBOLS. There are MILLIONS of other symbols available for you to use, each of them you can search for on your browser.

DO NOT RELATE YOUR TROLL TO ANY CANONICAL TROLL! This is frowned upon and laughed at in the fandom. There are thousands of available fantrolls for your troll to get in a relationship with. Your troll does exsist on the same planet as the canon trolls, though interaction between Canon and Fanon is HEAVILY FROWNED UPON. For the integrity of you and your fantroll(s), find other people with the same interests! You'll have new friends at your side, and many wonderful fantrolls to Roleplay and fawn over.

Canonically, Trolls can dye a portion of the hair (I.E: Eridan), however, in creation of your fantroll, don't go overboard:

THE BASICS:

Your fantroll's creation is dependent on your interests! Like mythology? Make a fantroll based off of your favorite god, like Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Athena, or even Artemis! Like cryptozoology? Make a fantroll based off of your favorite creature, like Big foot, Nessie, The Jersey devil, Hellhounds, or whatever you please! Make something that is more to your own interests for easier creation, or get challenged and make something out of your comfort zone! The choice is yours, but for the sake of the fandom, it is wise to not make a fantroll based off of an Anime character. You can make an otaku fantroll, just don't base them off of an actual anime/manga character.

Your fantroll's horns and blood color can be based off of interest as well. Make sure your blood color of choice follows the HSV hemospectrum however. White bloods, Black bloods, and Rainbow bloods are not accepted. If you are indecisive of the blood color, look at the canon troll bloods: They are all relatively mildly shaded with the exception of Karkat's bloodline. They can be a bit brighter, and even a bit darker, but almost never to the point of being white, mutated (candy), or completely black. If the blood gets closer to being a silvery tinted blood, but not white, or if it gets closer to being a blackish-murky color, that appears to be acceptable! Just be cautious!

Your Fantroll's lusus can also correlate with what your troll is based on. Is your character based off of Cerberus? Make cerberus the lusus! Is the character based off of Poseidon? Give the fantroll Poseidon's loyal seahorses! If you're making a character based of something different or more challenging, search up on your search engine about unique animals and creatures that share similarities with your fantroll, or combine two or 3 animals together, and call it what ever you please.

If you are having trouble creating the fantroll, try reading up more about making one! Learn more of the basics and guidelines, and do your homework; Rome was not created in a day, so take your time. If you have trouble with inspiration, look to GOOD fantrolls that follow the guidelines! Don't steal the fantroll, but get a good idea of what you would want to do! Still having trouble? Listen to music! Music can make your brain active and creative, which means working to complete your fantroll's design should become easier.
