This is actually such a crucial part of healing from neglect and abuse and I have to add to this.

Because indeed, people who like you will not roll their eyes and sigh at the idea of accommodating your needs, they will value your voice and be upset with you about injustice done to you, not at you for "being difficult". They will be happy when you find a way to live a better life, and help you to get there. If you are struggling, someone who loves you wants to see you smile, not tell you to smile because "you have it so good".

I'm very sad today. I'm also feeling very lonely.

My partners won't use their words with me, but expect me to be able to phrase things that won't trip their filters, but aren't aware enough to do the same for me.

I'm also sad because they take the painstakingly thoughtful work I do for them to be comfortable for granted .... or worse, don't even notice the thing I did that made their life better.

Regardless of how often I tell them parallel play does not work for me, they'll sit on their phone all evening then say "I really enjoyed spending time with you" .....really? really?! How about I make you a plaster cast of me and move out. would you even notice?

I actually wouldn't at this point, but gosh am I feeling heart hurt.
