I assume Alice and Jasper own an old Victorian that looks borderline haunted on a huge swath of land as a place to retreat to when Jasper splits or they need the space to be vampires. Probably dangerously close to the Mason-Dixon line but it's a sentimental choice.

And then how do you write that without expecting us to go, “They decided this was a cover story that would draw less attention?”
