Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced legislation on Tuesday that would strip “woke corporations like Disney” of special protections enabling companies to hold copyright material for decades.
The Copyright Clause Restoration Act would limit copyrighted material to 56 years and apply the new rule retroactively, meaning Disney and other companies could immediately lose some copyright protections if the law were passed.
The measure is the latest Republican attack on Disney, which last month was stripped of its self-governing status at its amusement park in Orlando, Fla., after Gov. Ron DeSantis took issue with the media company for speaking out against the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, which prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten through third grade.
Hawley’s bill goes after Disney’s long-running list of iconic characters stretching from Mickey Mouse to Marvel superheroes.
Hawley said in a press release that “the age of Republican handouts to Big Business is over.”
God it's like watching a more morally bankrupt Freddy vs Jason
Hawley said in a press release that “the age of Republican handouts to Big Business is over.”
So you agree that Republicans have been giving handouts to Big Business prior to this?
I mean I fucking hate the Republicans but I ain’t getting tricked into siding with Disney on this one.
me, trying to focus, except focusing happens in the “brain” and that’s where the bees are.
guys this isn’t funny how do i get the bees out–

While I wholly support media piracy and absolutely think it is something you should do, there is one essential step you should take before heading to your preferred torrenting site:
CHECK IF YOUR LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARY HAS IT.
Not only is it safe, legal, and far less likely to fill your computer with malware, but you are actively supporting an organization whose entire ethos is free access to information.
You don't necessarily even need to go in-person! Many libraries have their entire catalogue available to browse online, some will deliver right to your door, and most libraries have digital catalogues as well through sites like Libby.
And lots of modern public libraries are SO MUCH MORE than just an archive of books. Safe injection sites, makerspaces, tool libraries, aquaponic gardens, recording studios, and so much more (or less depending on the library system) are available FOR FREE through your local public library.
Libraries are the socialist ideal in praxis in a lot of ways. Most are unionized, they're a public service that ACTS LIKE IT, and they're almost completely free to use.
TLDR: Piracy's good, libraries are better
The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
“I want guys like Ryan Dunn, who throw their important mail on the pool table and ignore it, to have healthcare. I want America’s biggest fuck-ups—guys who got kicked out of their parents’ house for not getting a job and playing video games all the time, guys who got fired from GameStop for selling weed to customers, guys who have really disgusting toilets and an inexplicably hot girlfriend—to have healthcare. I want anyone who lives in America, regardless of their organizational skills, moral character, employment status, immigration status, criminal status, or excessive fandom of Rick and Morty, to have healthcare. You might think people who actively ignore mail are irresponsible, especially compared to the situations I outlined above, where a person’s disability or financial status makes it harder to deal with stuff like this. You might think they’re lazy, or that someone should be able to deal with a simple piece of mail. But do you think being a bit shit at dealing with adult stuff is enough of a crime that it should cut people off their healthcare? Because that is the reality of the system we live in, where insurance determines access to care. There’s a tendency in healthcare coverage to focus on people who did everything right and still got screwed, like people who get hit with surprise bills. It’s understandable—if you want to convey how arbitrary and stupid the system is, those cases are the most powerful examples—but I’m equally outraged on behalf of people who didn’t jump through the right hoops. The hoops are the problem.”

i say this as someone who researches this subject extensively: spying really is, truly and undeniably, an inherently homosexual act
its pretty fucked up how many healthcare workers hate addicts, mentally ill people, and disabled people. did you think the job was just going to be patching up John Sports after the Big Game and looking after 8 year olds with broken arms?
Not just this but people of color, too. I had the unfortunate experience of working in a hospital on a childrens ICU unit and the things I heard the nurses saying made me skin crawl
writing discord had a challenge to put together a collage of your story and people would try to guess what the story was about.
Don’t tell them I said this, but I think my collage was the best one. Not, uh, necessarily aesthetically, but in terms of being easily guess-able.

Genuinely can’t stand the new favouritism towards video format. You want me to spend a whole two minutes listening to someone say out loud a paragraph I could read in 20 seconds?
(This is about tiktok. I hate tiktok.)
It’s not just tiktok, it’s everything. I’m tired of clicking on news articles and instead finding it’s a video I have to watch. I’m tired of being sent to a video when I want to learn about a new thing instead of an article I can skim in less than a minute. You mean you want me to sit through an entire video, listening for the one kernel of information that’s buried in there that I’m interested in? Nah, man, life is too short to waste it like that. I don’t know why any of you like videos lmao.
if you’re offline or away and i message you something (like a link to a meme or a picture or w/e) honestly just assume that i’m just leaving it there for when you get back and not expecting you to answer straight away. i don’t need you to respond with “hey, sorry, i wasn’t at the computer!” or anything. i was leaving u a gift for later.
This also applies if you’re online and just don’t want to or have the energy to deal with humans in the moment. Just because we have the ability to reply in real time does not mean we have the obligation.
im like a cat i drag the posts to ur doorstep and if ur not there it’s ok, the post will be on ur porch for later
