1956-57 Continental Mark ll
The Mark II was an ultra-luxury coupé selling as the flagship of the Continental Division of  Ford Motor Company produced between the 1956 and 1957 model years. Essentially hand-built, it the most expensive American-produced automobile sold in the US at the time, although Ford lost money on each unit sold.
A two-door hardtop coupe, the Mark II was equipped with a V8 engine and automatic transmission. For 1969, Ford revived the chronology of the Mark series with the debut of the Continental Mark III coupe which was produced for five successive generations up to the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII.

Common modification in the 60s with the street rodders was to lift the rear of the car to allow for bigger and wider tires, some even using "slicks." Another was to remove the front bumper. And ultimately, taking the front straight axle suspension off of a pickup and replacing it onto the street rod.
Top fuel dragster owned and raced by Conrad "Connie" Kalitta, CEO of Kalitta Airlines. Born in 1938, graduated from high school in 1957.
