Lady’s Eye Color
I saw this topic and I wanted to offer some insight on why there might be some confusion on regarding what colors they are. I also find this a perfect time to share an interesting fact that I learned when learning about theory of communication while in university.
So, I came about the topic of Lady’s eyes. What color is one of them? Blue or bluish-greenish.
Before you answer, let’s first look at these colors.
The top right is blue
The top left is blue
The bottom is blue
We all agree right? No?
Well actually, they’re all considered blue. Just not here in America.
In certain countries (mostly asian iirc), green is not seen as its own color. It’s actually seen as a shade of blue!
This what is called Grue.
A Japanese person would see all these colors I listed and call them blue.
They would even say that Vergil is still wearing blue on his coat. It’s just that he’s wearing different shades of it. (In dmc 5 he does look like he has a little green on him. I guess it depends on the lighting. I tried to find a good photo that goes up close)
Matter of fact, they’d even say that Nero and Vergil are wearing blue in dmc 5.
Someone even pointed out that Lady’s eye even goes a little more green in dmc 5. Who else goes a little more green in dmc 5?
It’s not even limited to blue! In certain countries, pink does not exist. It’s seen as a light red!
I encourage you all to learn all about grue! It’s really interesting to learn about how other countries call their colors!
Typically I would agree with you on this matter, that it doesn't matter if her eye is blue or green, if there was no pre-established models to go off of and the description was in written form. The eyedrop tool is free.
But I am not dissing you or anything because it is an interesting topic to learn about (other places and their opinions on color etc.) What the problem comes down to is most likely those who did her model in DMC5 forgot the significance of her eye colors in DMC3 and maybe thought the green looked better. I don't know, I wasn't in the room with the character designers but those two reasons seem the most likely.
It is a nitpick at the end of the day but it is one of those few character design aspects important to her character so it's weird they changed it. (Japanese people still knows the difference between colors visually (unless colorblind) even if they share words for colors btw. I know that isn't what you are implying but some people might read it that way.)
That’s probably more the case.
My guess is that they were trying to match Vergil in dmc 5? He does look a little green there. Maybe match the consistency of the twins?
They probably made it too green by accident and didn’t realize it.
