the problem with liberalism & the "woke" trend online
edit: changed the title so it's less fighting words + removed the direct site tags. I stand by their behavior being odd + the bulk of the msg unrelated to the specific rpg because it's an important conversation nonetheless. but to be transparent I don't want this to be a call out oooh they are so bad, more than c'mon, we gotta do better.
first and foremost, i'll make it clear that while i dislike democrats & liberals it's because i am a leftist β NOT conservative, right-wing, etc. a quick scroll even on my blog shows that i am nonetheless voting blue since realistically the psl and other third party options are a waste to me (but i respect voting your conscious). for me it is the lesser of two evils, and frankly the lesser in the us. ultimately us imperialism is the same whether the CIC in charge of air striking east africa, south america, the middle east etc is dem or repub. republicans show their grimy behind on main β democrats cling to their incremental change here to hide their equally disgusting behinds globally (or at the border! thanks, obama).
however, like myself and others not only marginalized but conscious of the global south & even the reality of how much the same bs every democrat promises and never fulfills HERE, we are vocal about the illusion of choice that comes with a duopoly. and, in addition, how 80% of what democrats campaign on saving that republicans are going to take rather than fully preventing that from being an issue (ie codifying roe instead of letting it hang on by a fraying thread for decades). trump is a fascist on main, harris cosigns ethnic cleansing (and fracking, apparently).
i add all this context to cement why i'm not surprised but ever disappointed at chappel slowly being redtagged. when you go too progressive, ask too many questions, are not content with the bare minimum bullshit, you become a threat to the status quo. suddenly you hate jewish people, not the plan of greater israel. you're anti black instead of disappointed at how obama played our hearts and was a war criminal behind closed doors now open, etc. when chappel roan says (and the FULL quote, not the tidbit buzz phrase the press is running with)
"I'm pretty, 'F--- the government, and f---everything that's going on right now.' I don't have a side because I hate both sides, and I'm so embarrassed about everything going on right now."
she is standing with marginalized groups here and abroad that are tired of the "choice" being a slow blue capitalist death and a fast red capitalist death. cr is one of few big names to have been adamantly vocal about transphobia, the gen-cide in gaza, and opposing the us government like denying invitations to the gov's ball because
"We want liberty, justice, and freedom for all," she said. "When you do that, that's when I'll come."
and as sadly expected, she's generally being dragged. whether it be by zionist media or those with a twitter and nothing and yet so much to say, her radical stance on desiring ACTUAL change for the marginalized everywhere has been dummed down to being an uninformed white woman that doesn't get how bad republicans are. and i hope the first few paragraphs break down how WRONG that take is and the nuance that is REQUIRED in these discussions.
this is something i see far too much of, but being an rper and a radical black leftist leads to headaches. ppc has been one i did not really expect after they ran on seemingly being very aware of societal issues. their decision to switch to non celebrity branding is not an issue -- there is too much stan culture online that idolizes normal people that happen to be known for their art / talent. however, going as far to paint cr's stance as "white privilege" was odd as hell. and to then double down when the capitalist implications of demonizing a radical was brought to their attention was even more disappointing. when a team says they are all woc that stand on ethos that i really fucked with turns out to rather not have an actual conversation on a public statement that is harmful to radical movements that are led by marginalized here (especially myself and other black folk, ESPECIALLY after being let down by obama) that includes those abroad, it's really sad.
their tumblr is currently down, and frankly i hope they just run with the rebrand and leave that tone deaf statement in the archives. i've attached screenshots of my attempt at genuine dialogue being eventually met with "well that's ur opinion β€οΈ" and i also want to emphasize i am not saying don't join. but with how heavily ppc has ran on being ethical and mindful, prospective members should get the full picture that feels a lot like the liberalism that is progressive but will ultimately remain complacent to the system of capitalism holding everyone down.
additionally, i'll clarify i'm not labeling the ppc team as liberals because i don't know them or their beliefs. however, the behavior and pattern of seemingly woke before surprisingly tone deaf is just common among liberals.
finally, talking about where democrats fall short & how we need to Actually stand with marginalized abroad is key outside of rp spaces online and obviously in real life. ultimately as a queer, black, nb but afab american citizen i will vote harris because i do have to have self preservation. i will not pretend like she is anything other than a blue tinted capitalist that's personable but nonetheless besties with aipac, and support critique of the two party system accordingly.
