SEXUAL SELF (trigger warning, quite funny but itâs your choice to read or not)
Puberty is a chapter of our lives where physical and emotional changes starts to occur because of our hormones. Afternoon, March 10, 2012, marked the day I had my menstruation. I was 10 years old. I and my friends played Patintero. When I was the âbahawâ of the game, I tried to catch one of the game participants who happened to be my childhood crush. When I was about to catch him, he noticed that I had red spots on my WHITE SHORTS. What are the odds! How unfortunate of me to wear one on my first menstruation. He exclaimed, âIKAY, MAY RED SA PWET MO!â to think it really came from him, I was really really embarrassed. So I immediately went home and informed my mom about it. She said âcheck mo panties mo dali!â and I hurriedly went to the comfort to check. To my surprise, I already have my menstruation. When I was a 6 year old kid, I thought I wonât have menstruation if I wish to be a nun. Since the day I have my âmensâ, I proved it wrong.
This is ridiculous, I thought. My mom and my aunts, who just had their weekly karaoke session, quickly went to the CR and checked me to confirm if I really had my mens. Me (butt naked), the panty and THEM, my aunties. Â Ugh. I donât know if this ludicrous âritualâ in welcoming a new dalagita to her first menstruation is still practiced today but my aunties pushed through these. ALL IN THE SAME DAY!
NUMBER 1. Facial panties ft. blood. This first ritual is yet the MOST DISGUSTING THING I ever did my whole life but I had no choice because this is said to avoid future pimples daw. âKay,gawin mo to para hindi ka magkaroon ng pimples.â I believed it right away because I donât want to have pimples. There, I had some of my blood all over my face. But VUALLAH! Fake news, I had my pimples and I still have them âtil now.
NUMBER 2. Climb three steps from the ladder and Jump. With my whole family around me (and few neighbours), My aunts, instructed me to climb three steps on the ladder at the vacant house. âsabi nila, para daw three days ka lang dugoin kailangan mo mag akyat diyan three steps tapos jump ka ha sige.. 1 2 3 go!â my goodness. Guess what, I just fell on the ground. Pero I wasnât shy because our neighbours saw me when I fell. Instead, I got shy because my childhood crush witnessed my second classic ritual. I just donât want him to watch thatâs all.
There were actually 5. But my aunts donât believe in the remaining three. They said I should do only two because those two were the highlights of the ritual. It took me 2 hours to finish the two. I was so emotionally exhausted, not physically but EMOTIONALLY because the thought that my childhood crush was the first one to have noticed the spots and witnessed the second classic ritual, was very humiliating. I want to burry myself in the soil while reminiscing.
Aside from the epic, life-changing experience on my first few encounters with Ms. Menstruation, I had few umm flings? I donât know if I should quote them as one but I think they are. But donât get me wrong, I had them when I am 18. I wasnât a minor when I was first introduced to the world of dating apps but I wasnât desperate to have a boyfriend. Letâs say it was just a social experiment so that I wonât be dumb when some guyâs trying to get my attention or is trying to harass me. There I learned that not all guys will take you seriously and that some only want whatâs on the surface, they wonât have the guts to go deeper to know you. I have to value my worth. Those guys donât deserve an inch of me, I realized.
