Look at this!!!! This bag is a collaboration between me and my husband that resulted from him wishing there was fabric with VHS tapes on it as opposed to the many designs out there with cassette tapes. (âIâm a film guy, not a music guyâ he says.)
So I was like why donât you make some? AND HE DID! He designed the tapes, made linocuts of them, then block printed a couple yards of canvas with 3 different colors and black on top. (âNever againâ he says.)
All the design elements were picked by him, and we made an 11th hour choice to add the black piping and Iâm so glad we did because LOOK!!!
Weâre both very excited. (âHahaha! Hoohoohoo! Heeheehee!â he says.)
The pattern I used is called the Bestie Bag, for anyone interested.
I found myself in a mall today and decided to try on some Leviâs and was very surprised to find that I no longer hate the way I look in fitted jeans. I stopped wearing them years ago [mostly for comfort reasons (jeans are not comfortable to sit down in) but also because I was self conscious about my hips].
I think I have sewing my own clothes to thank for this change, because it turns shapes and measurements into pure data and takes the judgement out of it. Anyway I didnât buy these (they are expensive and didnât fit perfectly) but maybe Iâll make some one day.
wildering.

You know, I really would have hoped it would go without saying, but unfortunately "no I can't cut your pants into shorts for you WHILE THEY ARE ON YOUR BODY" is something I had to say at work today
Hey, you, cis girl that's very (correctly) vocal about women being allowed to talk about their periods, do you include trans women in that?
I ask because every single time I've tried to talk about it to anyone that isn't a trans woman they get fucking angry. Which has caused me to have to just suffer in silence every single month. So I really relate to cis women when they talk about literally the exact same thing; being shamed by everyone around them their whole lives for talking about their periods, so they just suffer in silence every month as it negatively impacts their work and social lives. But I don't even feel like I can voice that I am literally dealing with the same exact thing because most of y'all react like you want to throw me in front of a bus for saying it, even those of you who act like your such big great transfem allies.
I guess I'll take this opportunity to talk about trans women periods. The first thing any tme person thinks when they hear this is always "how can trans women have periods? They don't have uteruses!"
The answer is: the uterus isn't what causes your period, it is effected by your period. What causes your period and what causes trans women's periods is the same thing: the endocrine system.
HRT changes the sex of your endocrine system. Feminizing HRT makes it a female endocrine system, giving us a 28-day hormone cycle just like cis women. At the end of that cycle, the hypothalamus floods the body with prostaglandins. Those are what cause all but one of the period symptoms, because they make muscles inflame and contract. They are what make the uterus shed its lining, they are what cause intestinal cramps, they are what cause body aches, they are what cause headaches and migraines. The only period symptom not causes by the release of prostaglandins throughout the body is depression, and that is caused by your endocrine system simply not processing as much estrogen and from simply feeling like shit.
So, the only symptoms trans women don't get every 28 days is menstrual cramps, because yes we do not menstruate since we don't have uteruses. But migraines, depression, body aches, intestinal cramps, and the infamous "period shits" don't exactly add up to us having any better of a time. Except we have to pretend that we're fine and nothing is different because no one believes that we get periods, not even cis women.
"But you can't call it a period then because that refers to MENSTRUATION!" is another one I hear all the time. This is incorrect. You use the word "period" instead of just "menstruation" because it doesn't just refer to menstruation. It refers to a period at the end of the hormone cycle where we experience a host of symptoms. And not all cis women experience all of the symptoms that encompass the period. Not all cis women get migraines, or body aches, or have severe depression. If a cis woman gets a hysterectomy she doesn't menstruate either! In that instance she experiences an identical period to what trans women experience. Yet, I doubt you'd insist that cis women who've had hysterectomies don't have periods.
Oh, another thing that I personally discovered after bottom surgery: vaginal odor changes for trans women during our periods too. I was not expecting that because I always thought it was just from menstruation. But nope, the ph levels of a trans woman's vagina are the same of as a cis woman's vagina, and it changes during our periods just the same.
I think, for me personally, the weirdest thing to come from my own absolute disdain for generative AI is that lately Iâve had a bit of a hankering to write an essay. Like just to see if i can still bang out a decent argument that flows well and cites sources. I donât know what Iâd write it about, but I used to be able to just put some Orbital on in my headphones and type away for a few hours the day before I had a paper due, and I wonder if I still could.

Oof. Today was 5th grade graduation for my kid, and that was all well and fine. But I saw a mom, whose twins were besties with my kid in like 1st & 2nd grade, and the kids drifted apart so we havenât been in touch much with the parents for a couple years aside from the occasional âhey how are ya!â I didnât see her husband there and asked if he was working, but it turns out he died due to his major depression like a week and a half ago. And like obviously thereâs nothing we could have done, but my husband was friendly with him, like they went to a couple hockey games together and stuff. Anyway I just feel heavy about it and donât know what to do with this information. He was a good dude, and I hope he has some kind of peace now.
I got stuck in some pretty horrendous traffic on my way home from work today, so I thought Iâd check google maps to see the best alternative route home. In its infinite wisdom, it suggested I simply fucking ⌠fly? teleport? right over that pesky median and just get on the freeway going the opposite direction. Duh, why didnât I think of that!
ok i absolutely need to know what accents u all have pls reblog and tell me or comment or whatever I must know
lost time.

Sometimes I see things where people are waxing poetic about how they want to live in the woods in a little cottage, and I think about how I used to live in the woods and it was just:
- when it rains you listen to the sound of the water dripping into the 17 strategically placed pots and pans scattered around the house because of your shitty leaky roof, and if it rained before anyone was home to put out the pots, have fun because your pillow is wet now sorry
- if itâs windy and storming you listen to the tall trees all around you creaking and cracking and hope that the one dead one you can see from your window doesnât fall on your house while youâre sleeping
- when itâs cold outside, itâs cold inside and itâs a *wet* cold that gets into your bones and even if youâre wrapped in blankets your nose is still freezing and itâs drafty as hell
- maybe you have a fireplace that heats the living room only but also itâs always a little bit smoky inside, or you have space heaters around the house running up the electric bill and being potential fire hazards because:
- the electrical system is old and sucks ass
- sometimes the wind causes power outages that last multiple days in a row
- if the storm is bad enough the one and only road in and out of town might get shut down because of landslides so good luck getting to work or the good grocery store 30 miles away
- BUGS always, year round, no way to keep from getting bitten by mosquitos in the summer, and spiders always and forever in all the corners
- getting woken up every morning at 5am when the FUCKING stellar jays decide itâs time to SCREAM
So anyway I think what those people actually want is just to be rich and left alone (who doesnât) but the cottagecore life doesnât really exist in my experience

My whole life I've known that you must leave at least one mistake in your knitting or crochet or tapestry, because spirits/demons can get lost in the perfection of the stitches and be unable to find their way out.
If you don't want a haunted scarf, you have to leave a mistake as an exit point.
This is beautiful but I can't help but think that at least one of these originated with like, someone who fucked up their knitting and managed to convince everyone else it was intentional.
I'm almost certain this is what happened. Because whenever I am close to finishing a crochet project, especially something in the round where each row is more work than the last, and I find a mistake in the last row as I'm stitching into it
The closer I am to finishing and not wanting to undo 2h worth of work to change that one single into a double, the more likely I am to go "well. That's the demons stitch then isn't it", and leave it be.
The demon stitch absolutely gives my ocd toxic perfectionism a loophole to allow something to remain a mistake, which is why I choose to believe in it.
oh, haha. a loophole.
Latest make! This will be an end-of-year gift for my kidâs teacher.
