Reminder that trans people are allowed to do whatever we want with our transitions.
ANYWAYS GOING ON AND OFF HORMONES IS REALLY DANGEROUS AND YOU’RE GONNA FUCK UP YOUR BODY IF YOU DO THAT!!! ESPECIALLY BECAUSE HORMONES WORK ESSENTIALLY LIKE DRUGS - IF YOU GO COLD TURKEY ALL OF A SUDDEN, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WITHDRAWAL!!
IF YOU’RE UNSURE ABOUT HORMONES PLEASE CONSULT A DOCTOR OR INFO SHEET TO BE SURE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND THAT YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE CHANGES!!
YOU CAN’T PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT FROM HORMONES AND SOME CHANGES BROUGHT ON BY HORMONES CANNOT BE REVERSED!!
IF YOU FEEL LIKE TRANSITION IS A PRISON OR A BOX, DON’T FUCKING TRANSITION!! IF YOU’RE REALLY DYSPHORIC (AKA ACTUALLY TRANS), YOU SHOULD FEEL RELIEVED AND HAPPY WITH TRANSITION, AND ONLY MINOR THINGS SHOULD UPSET YOU, SUCH AS GAINING ACNE OR NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE FULLY FUCTIONING GENITALS!!
PLEASE BE SAFE AND INFORMED BEFORE YOU START CHANGING YOUR ENTIRE BODY!! HORMONES AND TRANSITION IS NOT SOMETHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH, AND MANY PARTS ARE PERMANENT! IT’S NOT LIKE A TATTOO OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS MERELY COSMETIC AND CAN STILL BE CHANGED!
Reblogging here because SERIOUSLY GUYS.
@ my trans followers, PLEASE BE INFORMED BEFORE YOU START HRT AND DO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH IT.
It’s a shame I even have to say this shit because you’d think people would be smart enough to really learn about complete changes to their body like this.
To recap:
Going cold turkey on hormones will make you go through withdrawal, which is not fun. It could fuck up your body as well to keep going on and off.
Many changes done by HRT are permanent, such as voice changes, breast development (estrogen), vaginal atrophy (testosterone), etc. Even if you detransition (i.e. go off hormones), these will not go away.
You can’t pick and choose what changes you get from hormones. If you wanna look androgynous, you’re going to have to be very lucky. Taking a low dose of hormones or going on and off them will not make you look androgynous. Hormones aren’t some magic pill.
Be fully informed about hormones before you decide to start them. Get information from your doctor or whoever is prescribing you them, read stuff online or from an informed consent plan, whatever. This stuff is the real deal. You can still get off the ride once you start, but it will have consequences depending on how far into transition you’re in.
Same goes for surgery. Be fully aware of what you’re doing and what pros and cons there are before you go into it. Also be sure to choose a reliable surgeon who knows what they’re doing so you don’t have a botched surgery.
You’re allowed to be unhappy with some changes of transition. I know I’m not going to like all the acne and itchiness once I start hormones, or the pain I’ll experience after top surgery, or how I can’t get a fully-functioning dick. But if transition is seriously making life harder for you, as in making you unhappy enough to not be able to function, then somewhere along the line someone has misdiagnosed you or you have lied about dysphoria and you will need to try to find a way to reverse the changes - but be warned, not everything can be reversed.
