Claudette Colvin, a 15 year-old high school student in Montgomery, AL, refused to give up her bus seat to a white woman on this date March 2, 1955. This act, similar to Rosa Parks’ act, occurred nine months earlier. For those who are interested why so many black people refuse to celebrate the 4th of July. Instead of having freedom , our ancestors had this. And it’s not the only reason not to celebrate the 4th of july. We still don’t have this freedom everybody’s talking about, we still can’t feel free in this country while getting constantly oppressed and humiliated just because of our skin color. Black people are dying every day from the hands of the police officers and i don’t feel like this country has improved from the days of slavery. So, i don’t have something to celebrate this day.
