"You do know I care about you right? I'll never be them, those brothers... I know. But that doesn't mean I don't show up. I wish you'd throw me a bone here- and no I don't mean literally." Gabriel points a firm finger. "I never see you anymore, you don't visit or drop by. If you're so good at pretending you're not hurting, can you at least try to pretend you care about me too?"
Send "I care about you." For my muses reaction!
His words hit her like a mac truck. Square in the chest. Katherine's never been good at this sort of thing. And hes right. He will never be the Salvatores. Mason wasn't either. No one would ever live up to the Salvatores, and most of them knew that. Most of them left. Not Gabe.
He doesn't even ask her to care about him, he asks her to try to PRETEND at the very least. Oh it's like salt in a wound. It stings for the simple fact that it's a vivid example of how shitty she is. A shitty friend. Gabe has shown up for her more than anyone else in her life, and who does she show up for? The Salvatores. Who never even say thank you.
It's a prime example of her giving her love and energy to people who don't deserve it, but she just can't help it. Love doesn't always make sense. The heart wants what it wants. She is unreasonably good at pretending she isn't hurting, she has to give him that.
Katherine looked at the ground as he spoke, only looking over once he was finished.
"I'm not good for you, Gabe. I am a walking bouquet of red flags. You have shown up for me, you're right and I take that for granted every time because I would always rather see Stefan. I am on the run constantly Gabe, my time anywhere is limited. I can't just pop by, and if I can I pick Stefan. I text you, and that's more than I do most people. But you? You picked a shitty girl to attach yourself to and that was on you. I told you, that I had initially intended to send you to the slaughter house. You chose to forgive that based on the fact that I didn't. You shouldn't have, by all logic you should have run RUN for the hills and never looked back." Katherine seethed, more angry with herself for just BEING like this when she could just let him in instead of push him away.
