Back in the early 2010s of Tumblr, I started a second account on here to post about Achievement Hunter and Rooster Teeth. I LOVED the fanart, the gifs, all the cosplays that the fandom was making and wanted to share it constantly (and my friends were tired of me flooding their timelines). So making the second account made sense.
And then that fucking account exploded and became one of the biggest AH/RT accounts on here.
I never thought in a million years that making that blog that would change so much of my life. I got to meet so many amazing people through that account, damn near all of them being incredibly talented. I developed so many close friendships, many of them I still have to this day. I got my first professional convention experience through RTX, my first major career opportunity, just a lot of firsts in general.
Sucks that nowadays, Rooster Teeth is extremely bittersweet for me.
In the final years, there were a lot of things that happened that affected my opinions of the company and changed my thoughts. When I think of Rooster Teeth now, I don't have much of a reaction anymore. I cared more about the people working there then the company itself for the last few years to be honest.
Learning of Rooster Teeth shutting down today didn't make me sad, but it didn't make me happy either. I felt so much pain for my friends who worked there and now have to start job hunting in such a scary time. I want the best for my friends and hope things work out for them and that everyone gets a secure job quickly. I have so many mixed feelings, but one thing for sure is that I will miss the better times.
This company changed my life, and I will always appreciate that. There is a lot that I miss, but I have moved on from most of that over the nearly 2 years I've separated myself from the community. I debated about writing this but in the end I think this is a good way to say it was sure as fuck a ride. Take care everyone.

ANTI-CAPITALIST AFFIRMATIONS
i am allowed to spend my time creating things, even if they are not beautiful.
there is no such thing as a "real job." all forms of work are real and valid.
there is nothing that i need to accomplish to be worthy. i am already worthy.
doing nothing is good for my soul.
i am not defined by what i produce.
my worth cannot be measured by my paycheck, my job title, or a list of professional or academic achievements.
i do not need to monetize my hobbies, it is enough to spend time doing something i love.
i will not let society decide what success looks like. i can define what successful life looks like for me.

my illustration/painting inspired by so much for stardust lyrics! this song is so wondrously melancholic to me, I wanted to paint something for it.

Sharing some emotion
Sometimes it feels good to let out some feelings, so I guess it's time to get used to the minor emotion dumps again. After so many life changes in the course of five or so years I know it's alright to let a little out here and there. Still hard, but let's see how I'm feeling:
I finished a master's degree. I got married a few years ago, too. Those are definitely some big steps. And prior to then moving a few states over I even did some trauma therapy. Between PTSD and Anxiety I can safely say that all of these experiences have been challenging.
Now I'm looking for work, and that's a ride. We'll see where I land, but I really do just want to support a comfortable life. I'm a little tired of the survivalist brain telling me everything is fucked, or that I'm going to fall on hard times, or even that I'm going to have to fight literally to protect the things I love. I don't want to fight any more, or hide. I want to be me and unapologetically so.
I cut manipulative, rude, performative family out of my life. I understood after over thirty years that I was not valued, or loved, or cared for by people I had wanted to be care for. I sacrificed myself time and time again until I was too beaten and scared and hollow to keep doing it to protect them. And, honestly, I did my best not to simply cease to exist through all those years.
Since then I've been building a life. I've had support and I am thankful to have it, without expectations and being forced to "earn" every single ounce of assistance. Unfortunately it's still a bumpy ride. Sometime I cry just to let it out a little, as therapy can only do so much and living life theoretically should do the rest. One day at a time I try to climb toward feeling worthy of a good life again. It's hard. I don't think people really get that sometimes: it's hard to feels worthy when you've been under heels and making yourself smaller and smaller for decades. Sometimes I don't think people care about that reality either.
I think that's enough for now. It's just a bunch of words anyway - so the lucky bit to this is knowing that it's almost like a private little journal. People don't need to see what I say. They don't have to care. I can do this for me and if it helps anyone understand me better or process for themselves the experiences they've been through, that's a win. I'm still deeply, deeply scarred and damaged and sometimes even broken. I'm still growing, though. Still healing. Still mending those little bits and big gashes where I ripped out the cancerous parasitic bits that drained me for so long.
Be patient, work toward better, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
And, as a note to myself that still makes me cry sometimes when I say it out loud: "Be better than them. Be the person you needed."

A Blog Post, all for ME?!
Howdy tiny circle of friends! It's about time to throw in the towel on the less than preferrable situation over on Twitter for me. As much as I love all the friends n' such I've got, I'm just not really vibing with an experience that continues to hit me with changes that are astronomically ill advised.
Basic experience with business decision making and management would be enough to alter the path we're seeing, but it's rather plain that it's just not the direction that the 1/5th size company is choosing to go. So with that said, I hope to see and make more friends, maybe with a resurgence of some fun tendencies from my first round on here almost eight years ago now.
I'd love to flood this with hashtags for visibility but let's be real: I'm new to this experience all over again. So, enjoy this first post of hopefully many!
please forgive my screaming but here's a video of Patrick and Mikey hugging :)
hey hey hey!!!
I'm going to see if slowly shifting back to Tumblr after six or eight years is going to help me avoid using twitter overmuch. I like social media - I think it's great that it connects people to each other and information.
I can't pretend that I think of Tumblr as a place to get breaking news, but folks here know what they're about and I can enjoy their passions with them. Livejournal style introduction to come at a later date.

Well I, for one, welcome our new Telesto overlord
IF YOU ARE PANICKING ABOUT THE OHIO TRAIN DERAILMENT AND CHEMICAL SPILL PLEASE READ THIS
A post describing the incident in a panicked tone has been circulating. That post makes some extremely overstated claims, including that a huge number of animals will die and that there is a media blackout of the story. This is is information that was made as an addendum to the post (OP saw the info and made it their pinned post after seeing the correction) and some people were looking for a way to share the updated info without having to share the triggering post. So, here's why you SHOULD NOT BE PANICKING about the Ohio train derailment and chemical spill:
Here is the New York Times reporting on this on February 4th.
Here are NBC and The Daily Beast reporting on this on February 5th.
Here are People Magazine, the Sacramento Bee, The Daily Beast again, CBS News, Reuters, and Reuters again reporting on this on February 6th.
Here is CNN reporting on it on February 7th.
The EPA response profile has been active and updating since February 4th.
I want to preface this by saying THIS IS NOT GOOD, and we shouldn't act like nothing is happening. This is bad. This is a serious environmental disaster. There are currently risks to humans and animals, and risks to humans and animals will be ongoing for quite some time at various levels.
However I think that "this will kill all the pets in the area and will lay a swathe of poison from Ohio to Mexico, burning the world between" is perhaps something of an overstatement and I'm aware that folks are upset about this but holy shit let's please try not to catastrophize the catastrophe.
The purpose of an intentional burn at the site was as a containment measure, because it is better to temporarily have extremely toxic chemical byproducts in an evacuated area than it is to allow an extremely carcinogenic chemical to slowly disperse.
There was a similar chemical spill in New Jersey in 2012 (still not a good thing! Not something that we should let go lightly!) and it did not result in "all pets dying" or a mass poisoning of rivers and streams.
Here is the DHHS Toxological Profile for Vinyl Chloride, a nearly 300-page document that goes over risk factors and harms caused by the chemical. Given the tone of the original post, here's what people probably want to see right now:
At the moment, there appears to be one man who claims that his pet fox died as a result of exposure to the vinyl chloride, and it sickened some of his other pets. There is some discussion of dead chickens and one dead hawk was found. Dead fish were found in some bodies of water, and the EPA is monitoring other bodies and has issued directives for dams and spillovers to collect chemical runoff to prevent as much downstream contamination as possible. At the moment, it is very difficult to say whether there will be a significant amount of acute animal deaths (wild or domesticated) as a result of this, though I would guess there will be a very significant increase of cancer in the area in the coming years.
One reporter at a press conference from the Ohio governor was arrested, he has been released and the AG's office is investigating his arrest. There are a lot of photos of the derailment and its consequences on social media and other news websites, and it does not appear that anyone is preventing people from taking or sharing photos of the disaster.
Look. I am not someone who thinks that you should blindly trust the government. There are huge issues here. This is a disaster that happened for a number of reasons, many of which are related to absolute shit regulation of chemical transportation and which were probably exacerbated by overworked railroad employees who got fucked over for the sake of the economy in December. There is bad shit here that is worthy of criticism, there are legitimate things to be concerned about.
But just because I don't trust the government doesn't mean I think it's a better idea to trust a shitpost account on twitter that provided "evidence" in the form of an instagram account posting screenshots of text messages from one guy who had a collection of exotic animals he wasn't able to retrieve from the evacuation area and a tiktok video.
There are definitely things to worry about with this, but please don't panic.
Also look, if the news is too miserable and you don't want to look at it too much but you want to at least pretend to stay informed, the Daily Beast's Cheat Sheet is a constant stream of paragraph-long reports on breaking news. Two of the stories I linked up above are from the Cheat Sheet. Just. Keep it open in a browser tab and check headlines once a day, okay? This has been news for an entire week, if People Magazine is doing human interest stories on it there isn't a media blackout please don't get your news from twitter or tumblr please I am begging you.

If you see someone who is panicking or spiraling because of the original post, please consider linking them to this post.
