I want a job badly but I'm afraid of interacting with customers because what if they get mad that I'm not looking at their face? what if they comment negatively on my stimming movements? what if someone gets aggressive about my gender presentation not being clear? I dunno. I feel like these fears are not actually invalid or made up worries which makes it even scarier

having a trans woman there as an extremely minor background character that I don't even remember ever being mentioned to be trans in movie, when the much bigger character 'weird barbie' actor Kate McKinnon has actively done and been in transmisogynistic skits on both SNL and the big gay sketch show is not 'openly trans positive'. Especially when the fucking ending of that movie to show she was a 'real woman' was to make sure the audience knew she had a vagina. that movie is so fucking cis are we kidding me

I disagree with the two points here.

I have a vagina. I did not become cis when I got it. Throughout the movie it is explicitly made clear that Barbie did not have genitals at all before she became human. She chose to get a vagina when she chose to become human. That is a very explicitly trans metaphor that reflects my transition and I very strongly identify with it.

I also don't think that they have to have a character played by a trans woman turn to the camera and say "I'm trans" for the character to be a trans woman. It's enough for her to simply be played by a trans woman. Just like it's enough for a character to be played by a cis woman for that character to be considered cis. In fact, I'd like to see more stories involving trans women be like that; I don't want every single appearance of a trans woman on screen to just be about her transition. I want trans women to be in every single kind of story, just like cis women. I want everyone to see that we have lives like everyone else, that we are normal women.

I do agree though that the movie deserves criticism for making the trans woman character one of the most background of background characters. I think you can count her lines on one hand.

that's fair, I just don't think the mark that barbie became an 'actual woman' should have focused on her genitals especially when written by cis people. I didn't know that that clear choice of no genitals to vagina was something people were relating to from a transition standpoint though, so thank you for making me aware of that that does change how I feel about it a bit

for the trans woman character I 100% agree that focusing on her transition and all that is not a necessity and should just be there to exist. my issue was that choice specifically combined with making her character an absolute nothing background character, which felt like they just slotted her in to a nothing role to avoid criticism. Trans women should be on screen more than just announcing their transness, but they should also be able to be like. real characters that actually affect anything in the story at all. Background character #3 is progress but not nearly enough
