while most of this is true, i think we should take time, on the anniversary of heath’s death, to explain that heath was not an ‘addict’, as you said he is, in the way you seem to be inferring (addicted to illegal drugs, etc.) as he had quit his addiction to several drugs, as someone who dated him told the press after his death that the months before his death he wouldn’t touch any drugs at parties. (source) i also remember reading an article where another woman said that at a party all he was doing was drinking diet coke and smoking cigarettes, but i can not find this source atm.

heath died because he suffered from insomnia, and died of a overdose because of the mixture of several prescription drugs, some were sleeping pills, some were for his anxiety (he suffered from mental health problems), painkillers, and some pills to find the common cold. (source)

so please, in heath’s memory, do not call him an addict, on behalf of his fans, friends and family. he fought very hard to fight his addictions and in the end it was his insomnia and mental health that killed him.
